The national leadership of the Nigerian Universities Accounting Students Association (NUASA), led by its National President, Comrade Temple Daniel Oghenerioborue, has engaged the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Hon. Taiwo Oyedele, on Nigeria’s economic outlook, tax reforms and the future of the accounting profession.
The delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Minister as part of the Association’s efforts to deepen engagement between accounting students, young professionals, government and key institutions shaping the country’s economic future.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss the ongoing tax reforms, digital finance, youth participation in the economy and the role of young professionals in national development.
Discussions also focused on the forthcoming NUASA National Convention 2026, which is expected to bring together accounting students, academics, professional bodies, industry leaders and other stakeholders from across the country.
The Federal Ministry of Finance received the NUASA delegation and expressed its openness to continued engagement with the Association, particularly in the areas of economic education, professional development, youth participation and preparing young Nigerians for careers in the accounting and finance sectors.
As part of the engagement, NUASA presented Oyedele with its Distinguished Public Service and Fiscal Leadership Award in recognition of his contributions to public service, fiscal policy development and economic leadership.
The Association said the award was also intended to celebrate Nigerians whose professional and public service careers serve as inspiration to the next generation of professionals.
The engagement further highlighted NUASA’s vision of preparing accounting students for roles beyond the classroom by equipping them with professional competence, technological skills, economic awareness and the leadership capacity required to contribute to national development.
The Association expressed appreciation to the Minister and the Ministry of Finance for the warm reception and insightful discussions, while expressing its readiness to explore further areas of collaboration.
NUASA said it would continue to build bridges between the classroom, professional practice, industry and government as it prepares the next generation of accounting professionals to play a meaningful role in shaping Nigeria’s economic future.
