Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and member representing Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State, has waded in the motion calling for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, ABN TV reports.
The spokesperson of the 9th House Of Reps spoke on the floor of the House where he sought for amendment to the motion moved by Member Representing, Isiala Ngwa North and South Federal Constituency of Abia, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe on Thursday, July 6, 2023.
The Deputy Speaker sought that President Tinubu be urged and not compelled to use diplomatic or political approach to release Nnamdi Kanu even as legal proceedings are on in the same case.
Rep. Kalu spoke in defence of the motion after a plethora of voices rose to oppose Rep. Onwusibe’s motion.
He appealed to President Tinubu to use his good office to find lasting solutions to the issues, expressing concern that the continuous detention of Nnamdi Kanu has caused tension in the South East region.
“So I urge that the amendment should be, to urge Mr. President to use political intervention, diplomatic intervention, asking for his mercy to release Nnamdi Kanu to enable that zone to find a lasting peace“, he stated.
