The Ndigbo for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu 2027 Forum has said sustained grassroots mobilization can significantly improve President Bola Tinubu’s electoral prospects in the South-East ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The group also commended Tinubu for meeting with the City Boys Movement, describing the engagement as a positive step towards strengthening grassroots mobilisation and expanding his political reach ahead of the election.
NDI-ABAT expressed confidence that Tinubu could break the All Progressives Congress’ longstanding electoral setbacks in the region and mount a strong challenge against Peter Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Nigeria Democratic Congress and African Democratic Congress, respectively.
In a statement issued on Monday, National Coordinator of NDI-ABAT, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and Chairman, Board of Trustees, Uche Okwukwu, said the engagement with the City Boys Movement, alongside wider consultations, could strengthen the APC’s grassroots presence.
The statement said the consultations involved political stakeholders, community leaders, youth groups and influential voices, intending to build broader support for Tinubu ahead of 2027.
NDI-ABAT said the APC must learn from its disappointing presidential performances in 2015, 2019 and 2023 by strengthening its grassroots structures, rebuilding public confidence and addressing the political concerns of Ndigbo.
The group maintained that the region was not beyond the APC’s reach, arguing that consistent engagement, respect for the people and a credible political partnership could improve Tinubu’s chances.
“The Southeast is not beyond the APC’s reach,” NDI-ABAT declared, stressing that sustained engagement could help alter established voting patterns.
The group called on the City Boys Movement and APC stakeholders to intensify voter engagement and build a coordinated campaign capable of translating political support into votes in 2027.
According to NDI-ABAT, the forthcoming election provides Tinubu with an opportunity to challenge established voting patterns and compete more decisively for support across the five states.
It expressed confidence that the partnership with the City Boys Movement could become a significant factor in expanding the APC’s political presence and electoral support in the zone.
The group said stronger grassroots mobilisation and sustained engagement with Ndigbo would be critical to positioning Tinubu to challenge the influence of Obi and Atiku in the presidential contest.
