Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada is standing by his bold ambition for the club to win the Premier League in 2028, despite a disastrous season that saw the men’s team finish 15th—their worst league performance since their 1973/74 relegation.
Under the leadership of manager Ruben Amorim, the 20-time English champions ended the campaign 42 points behind title winners Liverpool and missed out on European competition entirely after a Europa League final loss to Tottenham.
Berrada, who joined United from rivals Manchester City, where he served as chief football operations officer, first outlined his “Project 150” vision in September 2023. The plan aims to deliver Premier League and Women’s Super League (WSL) titles by 2028, aligning with Manchester United’s 150th anniversary since their founding as Newton Heath in 1878.
Although the challenge appears immense—especially for the men’s side—Berrada remains optimistic. “Can the team win the Premier League by 2028? ‘Of course,’” he told United We Stand fanzine in an upcoming interview.
“We’ve just finished 15th, and it seems like an impossible task. But why not aim for it? “Why not do everything in our power?”
United’s women’s team also faces a steep climb. Despite finishing third this season, they remain far behind WSL champions Chelsea, who have now won six consecutive titles and defeated United in the FA Cup final.
Still, Berrada is undeterred, insisting that with a focused strategy and two or three strong transfer windows, the club can build a squad capable of returning to the top of English football.
“It’s about setting clear targets and channelling our efforts into achieving them,” he said. “I firmly believe we can do it.”
United last lifted the Premier League trophy in the 2012/13 season under Sir Alex Ferguson. With 2028 fast approaching, Berrada’s vision sets the clock ticking on a high-stakes mission to restore the club’s former glory.
