One Ibrahim Abdullahi, 27, has been apprehended for allegedly defiling a seven-year-old girl (name withheld) in Itas Gadau Local Government Area of Bauchi state, the police in the North East state has said.

The victim, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in charge of the state police command, Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, was deceitfully lured into a toilet at Central Science Primary School in Itas town by the suspect and subsequently defiled.

The police spokesman, a Superintendent of Police (SP), informed in a release he signed and made available to journalists in Bauchi on Thursday that the incident was reported at the Itas Gadau Divisional Police headquarters by one Umaru Yusuf on May 13, 2023.

According to the PPRO, “On receipt of the report, the team of detectives led by the DPO visited the scene and took the victims to the General Hospital Itas-Gadau, while the suspect was arrested.

“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to have committed the offence.”

He added that a discreet investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution upon completion of the investigation.

In a related development, a 16-year-old Fulani cattle rearer was nabbed by police in Toro for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

“On 06/05/2022 at about 1820hrs one Fatima Abdullahi ‘f’ 17yrs of Miya-barkete Town, Toro LGA, accompanied by her parents of the same address, reported at Toro Divisional Police Headquarters that on the same date, at about 1600hrs, the victim, who was on her way back from Kayara hill, where she went to fetch firewood, was suddenly confronted by one Adamu Lawan ‘m’ aged 16 years, of Lere village via Tulu, Toro LGA, while rearing some cows.

“He halted her with a machete and forcefully had unlawful carnal knowledge of her on the spot.

“On receipt of the report, a team of detectives led by the DPO visited the scene and rushed the victim to General Hospital Toro for medical examination, where the doctor confirmed penetration.

“The suspect was arrested and confessed to having committed the offence. Meanwhile, the suspect will be charged to court on completion of the investigation,” Wakil stated.

The police spokesman informed that the state Commissioner of Police, Aminu Alhassan, commended operatives attached to the command for their dedication and professionalism and assured the people of the state of the command’s unwavering commitment toward the security of lives and property in the state.

“In the same vein, he (CP) equally urged the citizens to continue being vigilant and security conscious, as he reiterated that there will be no hiding place for criminals in the state,” the PPRO stated.
