Large Number Of Mentally Ill Persons Roaming Abia Streets Failure Of Govt — Sir Udensi

A governorship aspirant in Abia, Sir Chikwe Udensi has said the large number of mentally ill individuals roaming the streets of Abia is an indication of failure of government to solve social problems in the state.

He said they ought to be in the psychiatric homes where they should be receiving treatment and not on the street where they are not cared for.

Udensi, a chieftain of APGA spoke on Wednesday on a radio programme, Open Parliament on Love FM Umuahia streamed live by ABN TV.

He said the state government has not demonstrated enough care for the people, “any society that cannot take care of its own is not worth a society, how a state allow those people to be walking round the street naked in 21st century.

“It is unfair because it is called psychiatric hospital, it means what they are suffering it treatable. We have enormous social problems in Abia” he insisted.
