The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, has assured Lagos residents of strong and coordinated security arrangements ahead of the Eid Kabir festivities and beyond.
The reassurance was conveyed in a statement released on Thursday in Lagos by the command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
According to CP Jimoh, officers have been strategically deployed across the state, including to known black spots and high-risk areas, to ensure public safety, deter criminal activity, and promote a peaceful celebration.
“This is done to remove fear of crimes from the minds of all residents and visitors alike and ensure a hitch-free celebration this year and beyond,” he said.
Jimoh highlighted that particular attention would be focused on religious and public spaces expected to see large crowds during the celebration.
“Particular security attention will be placed and focused at all Eid praying grounds, mosques and religious facilities, recreation centers, and other public spaces where large gatherings are anticipated so as to guarantee safety for all.
“These spaces are going to be properly policed to ensure effective crowd control, traffic management, and ease of access and movement throughout the state,” he added.
He noted that the proactive measures were designed not only to prevent crime but also to ensure prompt detection of any criminal activities.
“These measures will also nip in the bud any other security concerns that may arise.
“The maintenance of public order before, during, and after the festivities will be our utmost priority for the command,” he emphasized.
Jimoh explained that the Lagos Police Command would lead and coordinate efforts with other security and emergency services to ensure seamless operations throughout the festive period.
“The command will work with the military, paramilitary agencies, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other departments.
“This is to ensure adequate security, safety, and protection of all residents and visitors alike during the festivities and beyond,” he said.
He directed all officers to carry out their responsibilities with high standards of professionalism and to respect citizens’ rights at all times.
“They are to be courteous, polite, and professional but firm in carrying out their official duties and other obligations during the period in whatever capacity and wherever they are posted,” the police chief stated.
Jimoh also called on members of the public to support the police and exhibit good conduct during the celebrations.
“Parents and guardians are implored to prevail on their children and wards to be law-abiding and resist any attempt to misuse them to disturb the public peace before, during, and after the celebration.
“The full weight of the law will be applied to disorderly individuals or groups of miscreants whose actions can constitute disturbance of the peace and violation of the rights of people of the state during the Sallah celebration and beyond,” he warned.
The CP urged residents to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to security personnel, noting that quick responses can be triggered through the command’s emergency contacts: 08063299264 and 08065154338.
He further encouraged the public to report cases of police misconduct through the command’s Complaint Response Unit using the website lagos.npf.gov.ng, WhatsApp number 09111111151, or by calling 09111111150.
Jimoh also appealed to religious leaders, community elders, and opinion leaders to help sensitize the public on the importance of maintaining peace and not succumbing to any actions that could disrupt public order.
Finally, on behalf of the Lagos Police Command, Jimoh extended his goodwill to the Muslim community: “Warm greetings and best wishes to all Muslim faithful in the state on the joyous occasion of Eid Kabir.”
