The Lagos State Police Command has made significant progress in its investigation into the tragic killing of a young woman on May 24, 2025, in the Gangare area near the canal behind Mile 12 Market. According to the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, two principal suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
In a statement released Monday, Hundeyin confirmed that the victim, who hailed from Nasarawa State, was allegedly attacked and set on fire in a **premeditated assault** believed to have been orchestrated by her estranged boyfriend and his accomplices.
The police have firmly debunked circulating misinformation that the crime was linked to blasphemy, stating that the incident was **not religiously motivated**. Rather, preliminary investigations revealed that the tragic act stemmed from a prolonged personal dispute between the victim and her former partner, who is currently on the run.
“The victim had been residing in the area with relatives from the northern part of the country,” Hundeyin noted. “Her estranged boyfriend, alongside others, conspired and carried out the gruesome attack. Two suspects are currently in custody, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining perpetrators.”
The arrested individuals are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are cooperating with authorities to identify and locate others involved.
The police reassured the public that **calm has been restored in the affected community** and surrounding areas of Mile 12. Residents have been urged to remain calm and go about their daily activities without fear.
Hundeyin also cautioned against the spread of unverified claims that could incite panic, stressing the importance of **waiting for verified updates** as the investigation continues.
