The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has announced that its governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly primaries will hold simultaneously across the 184 wards of the state on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
The party made this known in a press statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, reminding party members, stakeholders, aspirants, and the general public to prepare adequately for the exercise.
According to the statement, the decision follows an official directive from the national leadership of the Labour Party, which had earlier communicated the harmonization and adjustment of primary election dates nationwide to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party urged members across the 17 local government areas and 184 wards of Abia State to come out in large numbers and actively participate in the democratic process as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Labour Party further assured aspirants and party faithful that the primaries would be conducted in a transparent, peaceful, credible, and inclusive manner in line with the Electoral Act, the party’s constitution, and other established democratic guidelines.
The statement added that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a smooth, orderly, and hitch-free exercise across all wards in the state.
The party leadership also disclosed that additional operational guidelines and directives would be communicated to relevant stakeholders to facilitate effective coordination during the primaries.
The Labour Party called on all aspirants, officials, and members to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to the rules and directives guiding the exercise.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its political structure in the state, the party stated that it remains united and focused on sustaining good governance and securing victory in future elections in Abia State and beyond.
