Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has urged Muslims across the state to use the annual Takutaha Maulud celebration to renew their commitment to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), particularly peace, compassion, justice, and tolerance.
Yusuf made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesman, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, as Muslims in Kano marked the traditional Takutaha event commemorating the birth of the Noble Prophet.
The governor described Takutaha as a significant religious and cultural tradition that has continued to unite Kano residents and provide an opportunity to reflect on the life, teachings, and exemplary conduct of the Prophet.
“Takutaha remains an important part of Kano’s rich Islamic heritage. For generations, our people have remained committed to preserving the religious and cultural practices associated with the Maulud celebration,” Yusuf said.
He urged Muslims to ensure that the values associated with the celebration were reflected in their daily lives, particularly in their relationships with one another.
The governor particularly called for greater commitment to peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding, stressing that such values were essential to the stability and development of the state.
“I urge Muslims across the state to renew their commitment to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), particularly his messages of peace, compassion, tolerance, justice, and peaceful coexistence,” he said.
Yusuf also urged Kano residents to sustain the spirit of unity and brotherhood demonstrated during the celebration, saying religious occasions should strengthen relationships among communities and promote harmony.
He commended traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders, and organizers of the Takutaha event for their efforts in preserving Kano’s religious and cultural heritage.
The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at promoting the state’s history, culture, and religious values.
He also urged younger generations to take an active role in preserving Kano’s religious and cultural heritage.
“Our younger generations must learn, appreciate and preserve the heritage handed down to us by our forefathers. This is essential to maintaining the identity and values that make Kano unique,” the governor said.
Yusuf wished the people of Kano a peaceful and successful Takutaha celebration, praying for continued peace, stability and prosperity in the state.
