The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, has commenced a solar-powered streetlighting project designed to cover all 17 compounds in Amaekpu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.

The initiative, which forms part of Ukwa’s community development efforts, is aimed at improving nighttime visibility, strengthening security and supporting social and economic activities within the community.

According to information made available to ABN TV, the contractor handling the project has already been mobilised to the site, marking the beginning of the installation process.

The project is expected to provide solar-powered lighting at strategic locations across the 17 compounds that make up Amaekpu, Ukwa’s home community.

Speaking on the initiative, Ukwa explained that his decision to undertake the project was informed by the need to improve living conditions and address the challenges associated with inadequate public lighting.

He noted that access to reliable streetlighting could help residents move around more safely at night, improve visibility along community roads and public spaces, and create a more conducive environment for businesses and other activities after dark.

Ukwa assured residents that the project would extend to all 17 compounds, stressing that no part of Amaekpu would be excluded from the intervention.

He further described the initiative as part of his commitment to grassroots development and efforts to contribute to the welfare of communities across Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Residents of Amaekpu reportedly welcomed the development, expressing appreciation to the APC candidate for initiating the project in his hometown.

They described the intervention as a welcome development, particularly for residents who have experienced challenges associated with poor lighting in parts of the community.

The residents also commended Ukwa for undertaking community development initiatives despite not currently occupying an elective political office.

The solar streetlighting project adds to other initiatives associated with Ukwa, including educational support programmes undertaken through the Ikenna & Jenn Ukwa Foundation.

While installation work has commenced, the timeline for completing the project and the total number of solar lighting units to be installed have not been disclosed.

The initiative comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with candidates engaging communities across Abia State.
