INEC Goes To Court, Seeks To Re-configure BVAS

There are signs that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would attempt to have its earlier judgment on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, overturned by the Court of Appeal.

During the weekend in Abuja, a top official of the commission, who did not want his name disclosed, alerted Daily Trust of the development.

Recall that the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, had sought and received an order from the Court of Appeal to check INEC election materials.

But, with the gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday, the electoral board intends to petition the court to vacate the ruling so that it can reorganize the BVAS before the poll.

“We have to approach the court to grant us leave to undertake the re-configuration,” the official stated. The re-configuration must be completed on time because it will be done manually and deployed to the authorized PUs.”
