Mao Ohuabunwa, a former Senator representing Abia North senatorial district has vowed to continue from where he stopped if elected in 2023.

Ohuabunwa, who was defeated by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 National Assembly election, is the Abia North senatorial district candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ohuabunwa, in a chat with newsmen while reacting to a press release by a group threatening to recall Senator Kalu, promised to continue from where he stopped in 2019.

Kalu has won the best senator in 2021 and 2022 owing to his performance and unprecedented attraction of projects in Abia North . However some members of the PDP feels that his support to Muslim Muslim ticket for the 2023 presidential election is unwelcome

The former senator, who has been a federal lawmaker since 1999-2007, 2015-2019, Chaired the Senate Committee on Primary Healthcare and Communicable Diseases. After he was mocked, even branded ‘Frying Pan Senator’ by a section of the public for distributing frying pans to his constituency, the then senator said he had no regrets.

I have no regrets being called ‘Frying Pan Senator,’” he told Daily Trust.

Those who call me ‘Frying Pan Senator’ should have said ‘Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Senator’; that would have been nice. Frying pan is just an item out of the lot. What would you give the woman frying bean cake, popularly known as akara? I didn’t give only frying pan; we gave gas cylinders, stoves and spoons ; that’s what she needs.

“Would you be a taxi driver and we give you train? If you are a taxi driver, I will give you taxi; I may not have the capacity to build roads and other infrastructure but I am eloquent enough to defend the interest of the people. If I am elected again , I will share more frying pans.” He said
