People Magazine has announced Hollywood actor, Patrick Dempsey, as this year’s title holder for the Sexiest Man Alive.
Demsey is famous for his role as Doctor Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd in one of the most popular TV shows of all time, “Grey’s Anatomy”.
He has also featured in other Hollywood classics such as ‘Enchanted’ and ‘Made of Honour.’
The 57-year-old movie star said he was “shocked” when he heard the announcement which aired via the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show on Tuesday night.
“I was completely shocked, and then I started laughing, like, this is a joke, right? I’ve always been the bridesmaid!” he said. “I’d completely forgotten about it and never even contemplated being in this position. So my ego is good.”
Demsey has been married to a professional makeup artist and beauty mogul, Jillian Fink for 24 years. The couple share three kids, 16-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby; and Talula, 21.
In his interview with People, the philanthropist expressed gratitude for the title, stating that it gives him the platform to do something positive. Dempsey is the founder of the Dempsey Center, an organisation for supporting cancer patients which he created in honour of his mother.
“I’m glad it’s happening at this point in my life. It’s nice to have the recognition, and certainly, my ego takes a little bump, but it gives me the platform to use it for something positive,” he said.
He was previously named the second Sexist Man Alive both in 2005 and 2006. After finally topping the list this year, Dempsey joins the ranks of other heartthrobs like Marvel star Chris Evans, who was the immediate past holder of the title, Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, and several others.
