Mrs. Mercy Odoji Orji, the wife of former Abia State Governor, Senator T.A. Orji, has announced her departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ABN TV reports.

This was contained in her resignation letter dated May 21, 2024, and addressed to her Umuahia Urban Ward 1 Chairman of PDP.

This development comes just two weeks after her son, Chinedum Orji, the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, also left the PDP and joined APC.

A copy of her resignation letter in Umuahia read: “I write to formally resign as a member of the PDP with effect from this day, May 21, 2024, for personal reasons.

She copied the Abia State Chairman of the PDP as well as the Acting National Chairman of the party.

While there is speculation about her next political move, Mrs. Orji has not yet indicated which party she plans to join. Her departure from the PDP is seen as a significant development in Abia State’s political landscape, as she remains a respected and influential figure in the state.

Political analysts are watching closely to see what her next move will be, as her departure from the PDP could have implications for the party’s fortunes in the state.

It is not yet clear if her husband and former governor, who ruled most of his eight years under the platform of the PDP, and also went to the Senate for another eight years under the PDP platform, would also quit the Big Umbrella.

For now, she remains a political independent, and only time will tell what the future holds for this former First Lady of Abia State.
