The Chairman Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS Mohammed Nami, FCNA has urged members of the Accounting profession to always uphold ethical conduct and high moral standard in the discharge of their duties.

He further charged them to redouble their efforts and remain pace-setters to other professional bodies across the country.

Nami who made this call on Monday during the inauguration of pioneer FIRS unit of Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, ANAN maintained that more than ever before, integrity and service should be held with the needed seriousness it deserves.

He was at the event represented by the Coordinating Director, Compliance Support Group of FIRS, Dick Irri, FCNA.

He said the inauguration of the FIRS unit of ANAN gives members of the association in the Service a voice and opportunity to liaise the FCT 1 branch of ANAN and the national body to advance areas of interest it may wish to pursue.

He added, “We will also be able to make meaningful contribution to the progress of the branch and our noble professional body, ANAN.

“For all FIRS ANAN members present, the fact that we have set up a telegram platform where all of us are supposed to belong and coordinate our ideas as a unit, pass relevant and useful information is a right direction in guiding everyone.

“The establishment of a coordinating unit will help us to advance our training efforts for all members, which will be worthwhile for the FIRS.

“We can easily collaborate with FCT 1 branch and ANAN headquarters to ensure that we get our people trained and retained. Training you will agree with me is very key because times are dynamic and things are changing. We must keep up with trend and development.”

The chairman further underlined that as a unit, members of ANAN in FIRS now have opportunity of coordinating themselves better to make more impact in the Service.

In his comment, the chairman ANAN FCT 1 branch, Wahab Shina Omoniyi FCNA noted that the proper coordination of members of the association in various MDAs will create room for more productivity.

Since assumption of office September last year, about 6 units in various parastatals have been inaugurated.

Omoniyi who noted that Accounting ethical value will be further strengthened in FIRS charged the newly inaugurated coordinator, Victoria N. Udo and her team to lead by example.

He assured that the FCT 1 branch will provide the needed support to ensure the unit succeeds.

The FIRS-ANAN unit coordinator, Victoria N. Udo in her comment expressed gratitude to the Chairman of FIRS, Mohammed Nami for his support to the association in general and FCT 1 branch in particular.

While noting that the inauguration of the unit is coming at the right time, she added that it will create opportunity for members to speak with one voice and get the needed support from both the FIRS and ANAN.
