The Executive Secretary Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Chinagozie Adindu, has said proper family planning is important to control population.

He insisted that proper family planning entails giving birth by choice and not by chance.

Speaking on Monday while declaring open a 3-day workshop for Media Personal, Social Media Influencers & MDAs Officials on Media Advocacy for Family Planning, Dr. Adindu underscored the importance of the media in educating the masses about family planning.

He tasked families to begin to imbibe the culture of planning themselves to control the number of children they will give birth to.

He also expressed gratitude to The Challenge Initiative (TCI) a subsidiary of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for taking up the initiative to ensure that the state government reaches out to the public with a message of birth control.

Dr. Adindu also urged health workers to assist in reaching out, bearing in mind the intricacies and dynamics in handling family planning within the competence of professional background, advising them to educate families on how to access the needed services in health facilities in the state.

He expressed the willingness of Abia State Primary Health Care Development Agency to partner the media and The Challenge Initiative to achieve sustainable protection against avoidable diseases and death for mothers and all Abians.
