An entertainment consultant, Chiedozie Dike Popularly known as Doodoo has expressed concern over what he called the harassment of Umuahia residents by officials of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC warning that the anti-graft agency must operate within the confines of the law and desist from intimidating law abiding citizens.
In a release he made available to ABN TV on Friday, Dike said in the past 24 hours, the EFCC officials have been invading people’s homes, causing fear and tension in their minds, same way they allegedly intimidated Enugu residents recently.
He therefore called on governors of the South East region under the aegis of South East Governors Forum and senators to speak up against what he called the barbaric mode of operation of EFCC officials.
He says, “If the Governors are afraid of the anti-graft agency after the expiration of their tenure, then what about the SouthEast caucus of the Senate. Are they also scared of speaking for the people they represent?
“What about our traditional rulers, town union, labor unions, student unions etc. Una dey fear too?
“Don’t we have reputable men and women of God from the SouthEast region who can raise their spiritual voices and say NO to oppression by the EFCC?
“Are you all only interested in tithes and offering. Mind you the people they are oppressing are all your major clients, the earlier you speak up for them the better for you all.”
Earlier in the week, an Abia-based journalist, Norah Okafor also took to her Facebook page to express worry of the way and manner operatives of EFCC invaded her home, destroying property and forcefully gained access into her bedroom.
She said they operated like arm robbers, calling on EFCC officials to be more civil in the gestapo style of operation.
