Elections: Kalu Cautions Those Hitting The Polity, Asks Tinubu To Incorporate Them In Unity Govt

Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has asked aggrieved persons arising from the recently concluded elections to be careful as not to over hitting the polity, saying there is no perfect election anywhere in the world.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had warned that there are efforts to install an interim government by truncating the inauguration of president-elect, Bola Tinubu in May.

The service said this is being advanced through sponsored street protests. The opposition Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have been protesting the outcome of the Feb. 25 presidential election, alleging manipulations in favour of APC’s Tinubu.

Sen. Kalu, former governor of Abia State concerned by this development wants those aggrieved from the election to explore the option of judiciary to address their grievances.

“There is no perfect election in the world and those hitting the polity with flimsy excuses should be careful about how they go about it. The country is built with a system and all grievances should be channeled to appropriate quarters like National Assembly and Judiciary“, he said.

The lawmaker added, “Nigerians should understand that it is unlawful and unconstitutional to discuss interim government or call for the military to take over power. It is important we guard our utterances no matter how aggrieved we may be about certain issues.”

He called on the president-elect, Bola Tinubu to form a unity government that will incorporate the interest of the opposition when he takes over power.

“I also advise that the President-elect , Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu should consider forming a government of national unity. Late President Umaru Musa Yardua formed a national unity by accommodating other opposition parties and it worked.

“It would also be great to consider the Civil Society Organizations when forming the government as they have continued to play a vital role in the unity and progress of the nation.”
