Executive members of Ebem Ohafia Development Union, EODU on Friday paid a familiarisation visit to Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Janet Agbede at his office in Umuahia the state capital.
The aim of the visit to the police boss was to formally get her acquainted with the new leadership of the union as well as seeking partnership with the command on how to tackle various security challenges Ebem and Ohafia in general has witnessed in recent times.
Receiving the leadership of the union lead by the President General, Mr. Emeka Mba, CP Agbede expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that such synergy is needed to form a closer partnership between communities and the police in order to reduce security challenges to the barest minimum especially in the rural communities.
The Abia police chief also expressed the readiness of the command to build on the existing synergy between the command and Ebem Ohafia, Ohafia local government area as a whole and the state in general.
CP Agbede expressed delight in seeing the calibre of individuals who make up the executive committee of Ebem Ohafia Development Union, EODU, particularly the Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ifeanyi Okali whom she said has made personal sacrifices to ensure that Ebem is safe from sundry crimes and disturbances.
She also acknowledged Mr. Okali’s personal efforts in reporting the activities of the command in his media platform, ABN TV and Radio.
Earlier, leader of the delegation and the President General of Ebem Ohafia Development Union, EODU Mr. Emeka Mba thanked the Commissioner of Police for receiving the delegation, noting that the visit was to further cement the existing relationship the community enjoys with the police in the state.
He expressed gladness that incidences of kidnapping and robbery is gradually reducing under CP Agbede’s watch while indigenes and residents sleep with their two eyes closed.
The EODU leader reiterated the commitment of the community to beef up internal arrangements to support the police in fighting crime and ensuring that criminal elements are made to face the full wrath of the law.
The team also headed to Federal Medical Centre, FMC Umuahia to identify with the chairman of EODU Umuahia branch Ambassador Ebere Okoro who is currently being hospitalised following gunshot injuries he sustained after an arm robbery attack along Asa road on his way to bush market to buy red oil for retail.
The EODU executive members prayed for one of their own and offered words of encouragement to him.
Among those on the delegation include the President general, Mr. Emeka Mba (BamBam), Elder Idika Kalu Uche (Secretary-General), Kalu Ogboso Nnaoke (2nd Assistant Secretary), Mr Samuel A. Onwuka (Financial Secretary), Ifeanyi Okali (Publicly Secretary), Hon. Innocent I Agwu (Assistant Publicly Secretary).
