Ebem Ohafia Development Union, EODU, President General, Chief Emeka Mba (BamBam) has congratulated the Akajiaku and Mbachara Age Grades on the occasions of their Ota-Omu and Izara-Afa respectively.

“From the vintage position of Development, very high commendation goes to all members of these two Age Grades for their collective Commitment, Resilience, and Wit in delivering their landmark projects to our Community. Please do accept my warmest gratitude to you all and most especially, to God for seeing us all through this Season,” the EODU president, Emeka Agba Mba said in a statement.

He said 2022 will go down as one of the most challenging times in the History of the community when it faced a lot of security challenges which affected the realization of some of the set plans and agenda of Ebem Ohafia Development Union.

He reiterated his commitment to champion the both Human Capital and infrastructural Development of Ebem Ohafia, a passion and goal he looks forward to achieving.

He said EODU under his leadership in the past one year since it came on board has worked in many divergent ways to bring peace through proactive and far-reaching interactions and dialogues.

According to the president, these efforts have worked to enthrone the present peaceful environment the community enjoys now and intends to maintain.

He added, “As we know, the economic, social, traditional, and touristic fabrics of our community were negatively impacted by the several security breaches and disturbances. We intend to return us back on the track of Peace, Investment, and the tourist destination Ebem is known for. We pray the worst of those darks are far behind us.

“EODU in 2022 worked so hard to enhance good relationships with all branches at the CEC. I will like to seize this opportunity to commend all Union Branches for their undying support and commitment. Also, enjoining the few Branches that haven’t been forthcoming in the discharge of their mandatory obligation to key into this newfound commitment and zeal to collectively Impact our community’s infrastructural growth and development. Also, pleading with our young men and married ladies to get acquainted with EODU Branches in the Towns and Cities they reside and do business. We have taken measures to ensure Ebemites, of the right ages, all over the country and beyond strictly belong EODU.

“I have, with the help of my very astute Financial Department blocked a lot of leakages to raising our Internally Generated Revenues – IGR. These were done through the strict insistence of use of EODU accounts in payment collections, as well as some cost-cutting innovations introduced. A substantiate amount of money for the continuous check of erosions and other climatic challenges and running cost of EODU operations were realized. Erosions at the back of the Palace and Ebem Market entrance through Ezikwu were conveniently handled.

“The Union is working hard to draw the attention of both the State and Federal Government, on interventions to checks and control of many active erosion sites in Ebem. We have gone to local and national media to create awareness to the plight our community faces in the midst of ravaging erosion. These moves were published on notable National Dailies like Punch, Sun, and other newspapers. It is my strong belief that we will succeed in this move to bring Governments to their responsibility.

“I and my executive have intervened in road expansion and accessibility for a seamless vehicular and human traffic during this festive period. Age grades were asked to tip sands at various bad points and Union deployed graders to make our roads passable. My commendation to the compliant Age Grades.

“The Union through the Ebem Supreme Council adopted a lot of resolutions to ensuring the opening of blocked roadways and channels. These resolutions were taken during our Road Summit Conference of June 25th, 2022. We are working with Abia Urban Town Planning Authority Ohafia to achieve some of these tasks. We also instructed all new builders and engineers to seek the approval of EUDO before the Frontal Fencing of their houses. This is to ensure compliance to the standard Road-Fence dimension.

“Also, Ebem Market Reconstruction dilemma was revisited, where Branches at CEC unanimously agreed to raise the market to its original one-story status. In 2023, we shall work to achieving this.

In my personal role as your President-General, I have made an incursion into bringing many Ebem pupils back to school. I am excited that many students who earlier dropped out of school, are back in school today through these personal interventions. The importance of Education cannot be over-emphasized. I’m a strong believer in Human Capacity building through education and empowerment in Business, Craft, and Trade. Many of these will be evident in months and years to come. The goal is lifting many indigent persons and families in Ebem, out of the poverty line.

“Finally, let me commend and thank very many individuals and associations that have worked with me and the Union through donations and assistance in provisions of incentives and amenities aimed at ameliorating the suffering of our people in Ezikwu, Ekelogu and Mgbaga, and other places within Ebem. Some of these interventions included but not limited to – erosion control around Customary Court district Ebem by an Ebem son in diaspora, provision of Solar Street lightings at Ekelogu, Mgbaga, Ezikwu, Market and other areas by individuals and associations, erecting of Security Street Gates, Donation of Cash and Food items by individuals and organizations and many other humanly gestures. These should be emulated by Ebem-loving Sons and Daughters.

“Let’s us all embrace peace – live and let live for a Strong, United, and prosperous Ebem.”
