Dualisation Of Amachara-Umudike Road'll Give Umuahia Good Look Of A State Capital — Onuigbo

Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, Rep Sam Onuigbo has said efforts are ongoing to ensure the construction of a flyover from Amachara to Osaa in Abia State and the dualisation of Umuahia-Umudike expressway to give Umuahia the ambience of a state capital especially to visitors.

He said there is need for the people of the state to keep waiting and praying for the availability of funds so that the federal government will embark on the project in no distant time.

Speaking on ABN TV’s Political Perspective, the House of Representatives member said the consultant has completed the design work, adding that it is at the FG’s table even though the project is yet to be awarded.

The construction of the project he insists will create a good impression to visitors coming into Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.

He said there is no dualisation of road from Osaa to Government House Umuahia as being claimed, stating that it is a mere demarcation which does not allow road users to overtake each other due to the narrowness of the road.

“If you are driving through that road, you will see how difficult it is to overtake. You can see the importance of creating such face lift.

“Again, it will help to reduce traffic bottlenecks around that Amachara-Osaa axis which of course so many of have indeed experienced in the past.

“That indeed is a different project from Arochukwu-Umuahia-Ikwuano to Ikot-Ekpene Road. There is supposed to be a flyover from Amachara to Osaa, then from there, we should have a dualised road from Osaa to that Catholic Church.

“But they refer to it as Umuahia-Umudike Road dualisation project, I have a letter to that effect sent to to me. I can talk about what happened there with a reasonable level of confidence because when the consultants came, at several occasions I visited them.

“We are hoping and believing that sometimes in the future, the Federal government will find money to be able to award that and be able to do the dualisation,” he said.

He added that the 53 kilometres Umuahia-Ikwuano to Ikot-Ekpene Road project which he attracted has commenced, saying the Federal Government is undertaking a total reconstruction to end the era of palliative works.
