Despite being sacked by a Federal High Court in Abuja as the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief Ikechi Emenike, has promised to alleviate the suffering of the people by developing the economy, creating jobs and attracting foreign direct investment, if elected in 2023.
Emenike who made the promise while inaugurating his 1,740-member campaign council, said that Abia would no longer be strangulated by few individuals who see the state as their personal estate if voted into office.
Recall that Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja had last month pronounced former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah as the duly elected governorship candidate of APC in Abia, sacking Ikechi Emenike who emerged through an indirect primary election.
Ikechi Emenike during the inauguration decried the condition of the state’s economy, saying that Abia is choking, and needs urgent liberation and resuscitation.
He said the time has come for the people to take advantage of next year’s election to liberate the state from anti-democratic forces holding it down, warning that if Abia fails to get it right in 2023, more people will go into more hardship.
Emenike described members of the campaign council as “ambassadors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in all the polling units of Abia,” and charged them to spare no efforts in ensuring that APC sweeps the polls in 2023.
The development economist, who blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for economic woes and underdevelopment of the state, charged members of the council to send the PDP into opposition in 2023.
He noted that it would not be an easy task, but added the PDP’s abysmal performance had made the people lose interest in the ruling party.
The deputy governorship candidate, Rev. Gloria Akara, urged members of the council to remain steadfast and ensure APC is delivered in the 2023 polls.
“We are ready. The Rescue And Develop Abia (RADA) movement is not designed to stop. We’re going to continue until victory is assured,” she declared.
