Crisis has hit the governing Labour Party (LP) in Abia State ahead of November local government election in the state, as parallel primary elections have been held between factions.

Speaking with ABN TV in Umuahia on Monday, a former chairman of the party in the state and chairman of the LG electoral committee, Ceekay Igara claimed that his committee has conducted a primary election, waiting for approval of the National Executive Committee to approve submission to the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).

Meanwhile, another list of those who emerged victorious from another primary election believed to have the governor’s backing is circulating online.

But Igara insists that his committee allegedly set up by the party’s national leadership is the one charged with the responsibility of holding the primary LG election.

According to him, the national leadership of LP made available nomination forms his committee sold to aspirants, wondering how another faction could claim to have held a primary election without nomination forms.

He insists that all nomination forms for the recent primary elections were provided by the LP national leadership, insisting that his committee has the backing of the LP national headquarters.

Igara expressed hope that the Abia Electoral Commission will honour the list of those who emerged winners in the primary election conducted by his committee.
