The member representing Bende North State constituency Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chijoke Chukwu has urged the state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to ensure judicious and transparent utilisation of the federal government’s intervention fund for COVID-19.

This is even as he seeks to see a visible impact in his constituency and all parts of Abia through improvement of health care facilities in the state from the fund.

“I want to charge governor Okezie Ikpeazu to ensure transparency in the utilisation, spending, and distribution of the fund to ensure that every Abian has a direct impact of this President’s magnanimity,” he told ABN TV on Tuesday.

Chukwu also expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for the allocation of the funds to the 36 states in an effort to ensure that the fight against COVID-19 improves as well as revitalisation of the health care sector in general.

The outbreak of COVID-19 in the country earlier in the year has put huge pressure in the country’s already fragile health facility.

This is aside from the economic impact that came along with the pandemic after the country was locked down for months to contain the spread.

Pundits believe that the federal government’s intervention will further boost the fight against the disease in the states.

Lagos and FCT have remained in the lead with highest number of confirmed cases since outbreak of the disease.
