The South African government on Sunday declared coronavirus a national emergency, ABN TV reports.

To this end, the authorities have ordered the closure of all public schools from Wednesday, March 18, 2020 till the end of Easter holidays.

This is after about 61 suspected cases of coronavirus have been reported in the country.

The government has also announced a travel ban on UK, Italy and US with immediate effect.

The gathering of any number exceeding 100 has also been banned.
