Eight bodies have been recovered with 12 people still missing from the boat accident which occurred on Monday around Tungan Leda in Borgu local government area of Niger state.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) said that it rescued 11 people alive adding that the dead passengers include five females and three males.

The reason for the capsizing of the boat was attributed to strong waves due to the harmattan and overloading of the boat.

The NSEMA on Wednesday, January 17, released the names of the missing people including Saminu Hamidu, Aisha Usman, Hausi Hamidu, Zaida Mohammed, Fatima Ibrahim, Hajara Alhaji Kabiru, Hauwau Bala, Bello Ibrahim, Arisa Alhaji Aliyu, Amina Ibrahim, Azeema Usman, and Happy Ibrahim.

The names of the people rescued alive include Mallama Adamu Babangida, Bello Usman, Bawa Alhi Ayuba, Danyarbawa Danmanyan, Umaru Alhaji Mainasara, Rufayatu, Ladidi, Abdullahi Abubakar, Isah Suleiman, Rakiya Abdullahi, and Sakina Ibrahim.

It would be recalled that the boat heading to Wara market in Kebbi State, capsized around Tungan Leda after it left Kunduga Mashaya in Borgi local government area and Capsized due to strong waves and overloading.

There has been no recovery of anybody after the eight bodies were discovered.
