Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has urged the most recent group of recruits from the Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, Kaduna State, to remain unwavering in their commitment to fighting terrorism and insurgency throughout the country.
Delivering his address at the Passing Out Parade of the 6,195 recruits from the 88 Regular Recruits Intake on Saturday, Oluyede underscored the crucial role of the Nigerian Army in defending national sovereignty. He called on the recruits to embody the institution’s foundational principles of courage, professionalism, and resilience.
“The Nigerian Army is a professional force entrusted with the critical responsibility of safeguarding the sovereignty of our great nation,” Oluyede said.
He emphasized to the fresh soldiers that a military career demands a high degree of patriotism and sacrifice, warning them to be prepared for the complex challenges that come with defending the country.
“As you join this noble profession, understand that you are now part of the national solution to terrorism and insurgency,” he stated.
“Your training must reflect in your actions, and you must consistently demonstrate courage when confronted with adversity.”
Reflecting on the recruits’ journey, Oluyede noted that their transformation began on January 13, 2025, when they commenced their basic training.
“You have been shaped for the realities ahead. Challenges will come—some may seem overwhelming—but your preparation has equipped you for the task,” he said.
The Army Chief urged them to hold fast to the oath they had taken and remain true to the core values of the Nigerian Army: discipline, loyalty, integrity, selfless service, courage, and respect for others.
“These values must guide you. They are your compass and will steer you through your most testing moments,” he emphasized.
In his further remarks, Oluyede encouraged the recruits to pursue excellence relentlessly and remain trustworthy in all their assignments.
“Let excellence, dedication, and selfless service define your military career,” he said. “You must earn the trust of the institution and the nation you serve.”
He also assured the recruits that their welfare remains a central focus of the Army leadership, pledging continued support from the Army Headquarters.
“As you prepare to receive a well-deserved rest, also gear up to welcome the next set of recruits.
“The process for the 89 Regular Recruits Intake is already at an advanced stage,” he announced.
Oluyede extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for his unwavering support of the Nigerian Army.
“I sincerely thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continuous support and belief in the mission of the Nigerian Army,” he concluded.
