Former Governor of Bayelsa State Chief Timipre Sylva has expressed shock and sadness over last Thursday’s boat mishap in Nembe, Bayelsa State.

The boat was enroute Okpoama, Brass, from Swali in Yenagoa when capsized at Okoroma in Nembe Local Government Council around 1pm.

“There are scarcely fit enough words in attempt to console the families of the victims. This tragedy chose an inauspicious time to come and while it is difficult, we must let the families know that we love them and we have them in our prayers“, Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant On Media And Public Affairs quoted the former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources as saying.

While bemoaning a recent trend of marine accidents across the state, Sylva called for better regulation of the state’s waterways, particularly with regards to Maritime transportation by relevant authorities to forestall further incidents.

Sylva commended Bayelsans for bonding together in a common march of humanity as everyday people took fishing boats and volunteered for the ongoing search and rescue efforts.
