The Court of Appeal in Abuja slapped an N40 million punishment on a former Presidential candidate, Chief Ambrose Albert Owuru, on Thursday for filing a frivolous petition to prevent the inauguration of President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29.

The appellate court ordered the politician to pay N10 million in fines to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation AGF, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, and Tinubu, who he named as defendants one through four in the case.

Justice Jamil Tukur, who read the lead opinion of the three-judge panel, ruled that Owuru engaged in flagrant abuse of the court process by filing a frivolous, vexatious, and vexatious complaint in order to irritate the respondents.

The Court of Appeal ruled that Owuru’s grievances against the 2019 presidential election were not only unusual but also uncalled for because the objections had been pursued all the way to the Supreme Court and were dismissed for lack of merit.

Justice Tukur stated that Owuru’s move to resurrect the case that had died in the Supreme Court since 2019 was intended to put lower courts in conflict with the supremacy of the supreme court.
