The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The declaration was made on Friday during an official event held at the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.
Governor Eno explained that his decision came after “three months of wide consultation” with key stakeholders across the state.
While expressing appreciation to the PDP for their support throughout his administration, he noted that the time had come for him to take what he described as a progressive step forward.
The governor stated that his move to the APC was driven by his admiration for President Bola Tinubu and the desire for Akwa Ibom State to align more closely with the federal government in order to maximize developmental benefits.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of the state, emphasizing that his dedication transcends party lines.
“After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC,” he said.
The defection event was attended by several APC governors, including the chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum and governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as well as Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), and Bassey Otu (Cross River), among others.
