The National and State Houses of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal for Abia State now sitting at Abuja has dismissed the petition: EPT/AB/HR/10/2023 of, Hon. Kelechi Madumere and Action Alliance (AA) against the election of the member elected to represent Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obinna Aguocha.

The petition alleged that Action Alliance (AA) candidate was excluded on the House of Representatives election result sheet.

In a release signed by his media office, Tribunal held that the petition was lacking in merit and therefore dismissed the same through the withdrawal of the suit by the first petitioner (Hon. Kelechi Madumere) and second petitioner (Action Alliance), respectively.

This follows a similar fate meted out on the 11th May, 2023 by the same tribunal, which dismissed the petition: EPT/AB/HR/01/2023 of Hon. Paul O. Meregini and Action Democratic Party (ADP) for lacking in merit.

The release added, “We are very optimistic that God, Who alone made this victory and mandate possible will also ensure His guiding grace on the two remaining election petition matters, to wit: Chinedum Orji (PDP) and Ogbonna Abariukwu (APGA), both alleging that, Obi Aguocha won his election through the rigging of votes, hence the election should be nullified and another re-run ordered with the exception of Obi Aguocha.”

Counsel to Hon. (Chief) Obinna Aguocha, Chief. Ume Kalu (SAN) and Anaga Kalu (Esq) thanked the tribunal for a well-considered judgment.
