The administrative secretary of Action Peoples Party (APP) in Abia State, Chukwuemeka Adile has commended the APC member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency of the state, Rep. Sam Onuigbo for the construction work going on in the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene.

In a chat with ABN TV, the APP chieftain described the work as a parting gift from the federal lawmaker who will bow out of office in May this year.

He commended the House of Representatives member for offering an effective representation to his people, saying Rep. Onuigbo is on the right track with the yearnings of the people of the constituency.

He said he has no regret commending Rep. Onuigbo for his outstanding performance irrespective of their political differences, even as he added that he will not shy away from praising the Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for the work he has done in his constituency.

“It’s not about party, it’s about showing the capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy that the people voted you for.

“You are holding the office in trust for the people. If you do a good job, we commend you, and if you don’t, we will tell you that you are not doing a good job”, he added.

He also commended the quality of the job being funded by the NNPC as part of its tax obligation to the federal government, saying it will stand the test of time.

He commends the Federal Ministry of Works for their immediate response and excellent job, as well as the contractor, Hartland Civil Engineering Ltd., for their skills and effective remedy against the ravine.

Onuigbo, who facilitated the reconstruction of the 49km Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot-Ekpene road project, said that he was impressed with the progress made.

Speaking with the two-term lawmaker, He thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, through the Minister of Works, Mr Babajide Fashola for approving the contract and thereafter moving it to the NNPC Tax Credit Scheme that the contract enjoys today.

Earlier, the Project Engineer, Hartland, Hisham Yassin, explained that significant improvement was being made in the road construction.

He said that there was no challenge of funding, explaining further that NNPC had already taken care of that.

The project engineer said that 6.5km of the 49km road had already been delivered while stressing that the shortage of material before and during the election period did not allow for the expected progress.

He expressed confidence that the contract which was first awarded for reconstruction in 2019 for N13.3 billion, was expected to be completed in two years.

ABN TV reports that Onuigbo had commissioned other projects he facilitated in his constituency, including a block of six classrooms and three classrooms at Amaoba and Umudike respectively.

He also commissioned a modern health centre at Oloko as well as inspected the nine-unit skills acquisition centre domiciled at the headquarters of Umuahia South, Apumiri, Ubakala.
