A group of political stakeholders has purchased the All Progressives Congress governorship nomination and expression of interest forms for the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, ahead of the 2027 election in Abia State.
The forms were presented to Kalu in Abuja on Saturday, with members of the delegation urging him to join the governorship race, citing his performance and leadership at the national level.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, James Uko-Kalu, described the Deputy Speaker as a unifying figure whose contributions in the National Assembly have translated into visible development.
According to him, Kalu’s track record since 2019 has inspired confidence among stakeholders and professionals, many of whom believe he has the capacity to replicate such leadership at the state level.
Also lending his voice, a retired military officer, Jack Nwaogbu, commended Kalu’s role in rebuilding cohesion within the All Progressives Congress in Abia and the South-East, noting that the party has witnessed renewed grassroots engagement in recent months.
Another stakeholder, Uzo Azubuike, described the delegation as representatives of the people, conveying what he called a widespread call for Kalu to contest.
He urged the Deputy Speaker to prioritise the governorship ambition, describing it as a pathway to accelerated development in the state.
Responding, Kalu expressed appreciation for the gesture and the confidence reposed in him, stating that he would consult widely before making a final decision.
