A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State and President of Agunwanyi Odo Foundation, Barrister Nnenna Obewu Onwuka, has declared her support for the re-election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in 2027, commending what she described as his impactful representation of Abia North Senatorial District since 2019.

Onwuka, a native of Abiriba in Ohafia Local Government Area, made her position known in a statement congratulating the former Abia State Governor on the completion of his ward-to-ward tour of Ohafia, particularly his visit to Abiriba.

She described the reception accorded the senator during the visit as a reflection of the relationship he has maintained with his constituents over the years.

According to her, residents, community leaders, women and youths turned out in large numbers to welcome Kalu as he visited different parts of Abiriba, including the palaces of the Enachioken of Abiriba, His Royal Majesty Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV, and Eze Nwami, Chief Mrs. Ure Okocha K. Uba.

“Abiriba stood still. From the palace of His Royal Majesty, Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV, Enachioken of Abiriba, and Eze Nwami, Chief Mrs. Ure Okocha K. Uba, to all our wards, our people came out en masse to receive a beloved son of Abiriba,” she said.

Onwuka said Kalu’s nearly seven years in the Senate had been marked by infrastructure development, empowerment initiatives and regular engagement with communities across Abia North.

She specifically highlighted road projects she attributed to the senator’s intervention, including the Abiriba ring roads and rural roads in Abia Ohafia, Akanu, Okamu, Ohafor, Amangwu and Isiugwu.

The APC chieftain maintained that the projects had helped improve movement between communities, particularly for farmers, traders and other residents who depend on rural roads for their daily activities.

“Our people said it themselves: He is the only lawmaker whose impact we have felt,” Onwuka stated, while recounting comments she said were made by residents during the tour.

Beyond road infrastructure, she commended Kalu’s empowerment programmes, citing business grants, agricultural support, educational materials and skills acquisition initiatives targeted at women and young people.

According to her, such interventions have provided support for small businesses, families and individuals seeking opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

Onwuka also praised the senator’s approach to grassroots engagement, saying his willingness to meet constituents directly had created opportunities for residents to express their concerns and assess his performance.

“He walks our streets, listens to our mothers, sits with our traditional rulers and gives account of his stewardship,” she said.

She noted that the ward-to-ward tour went beyond political mobilisation, providing an opportunity for communities to identify pressing development needs and seek further government intervention.

The APC chieftain recalled Kalu’s engagement with residents of Ugwu Nchara, where, according to her, the senator promised to commence construction of the Ogo Ubi farm road by June 2027.

She said Kalu also pledged to facilitate additional educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure and rural road projects if re-elected to the Senate.

Onwuka described the commitments as important to communities still facing infrastructure challenges, particularly in rural parts of the senatorial district.

She maintained that her decision to support Kalu’s re-election was based on what she considered his record of service, accessibility and commitment to grassroots development.

“As President of Agunwanyi Odo Foundation, I reiterate my unflinching support for his re-election. Abia North has seen effective representation. We will consolidate the gains,” she declared.

Onwuka congratulated the senator on the completion of his Ohafia ward-to-ward tour and expressed confidence in his ability to continue attracting development initiatives to the district.

“Abia North is in safe hands,” she added.

Senator Kalu, who has represented Abia North in the National Assembly since 2019, is seeking another term in the Senate on the platform of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
