Inter Milan sign Eriksen from Tottenham

0

Inter Milan announced the signing of Danish international midfielder Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday.

Eriksen, 27, signed a contract until 2024 with the Italian giants after the clubs reached an agreement for a reported transfer fee of 20 million euros (£17 million, $22 million).

“It’s wonderful to be here and I’m happy to be a new Inter player

“I’m very excited and can’t wait to introduce myself to the fans. I’ve already experienced their warmth, it’s been a fantastic welcome. I feel great,” Eriksen told Inter TV.

Eriksen made 305 appearances for Spurs after joining from Ajax in 2013, scoring 69 goals.

The Danish international was a key part of the side that reached last season’s Champions League final and finished in the top four of the Premier League for the past four seasons under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, he refused to extend his contract with the north London club beyond the end of this season, meaning a departure was inevitable either this month or on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.

Eriksen expressed his desire to move at the end of last season and was jeered by some Spurs fans in recent games as speculation over his future grew.

Reported interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona never materialised and Eriksen was keen for a fresh challenge in Serie A, particularly under the orders of Inter coach Antonio Conte.

“I was able to get to know him when I was at Tottenham, we came up against his Chelsea side and it was very difficult. I’m excited to learn more about him and how his sides play,” added Eriksen.

“The numbers say that I did really well in England. It’s now time to start a new challenge, I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play in Serie A for a big team. Inter is a fantastic club.”

Eriksen becomes Inter’s third signing of the January window after the arrivals of Ashley Young from Manchester United and Victor Moses on loan from Chelsea as they aim to end Juventus’ stranglehold on the Serie A title.

Conte’s men are three points behind Juve at the top of the table, but their title challenge has stumbled of late with three consecutive draws.

Tottenham also confirmed the permanent signing of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis to replace Eriksen on Tuesday.

0

There was a mild drama in Ebelle community in Edo State yesterday as a man took back his wife to her parents, saying that her virgina will swallow him if nothing is done about it.

The people of the community were amused at the childish reason given by of the man, identified as Osamudiame Iyobosa for taking his legally married wife back to her parents.

Iyobosa, who drove his wife back to her parents house in Ubiaja in a green coloured Golf car told his in-laws that many people must have had carnal knowledge of his wife Edeki, hence the wideness of her vagina.

Before the incident, the couple resided at Upper Mission Road in Benin, the state capital. Jungle Journalist Media Limited gathered that Edeki was merely recommended to Iyobosa who accepted and ended up marrying her.

A palm wine seller near Ubiaja market was quoted to have said that Edeki was a well known flirt in the neighborhood and that no indigene would have married her.

He said they were all surprised when Iyobosa came from Benin to marry her.

“Some girls even started flirting as a result, saying that flirts are lucky in marriage, using Edeki as an example of a lucky flirt.

The development did not go down well with the parents of Edeki, who were infuriated that Iyobosa made the matter public. The mother of the girl according to a witness was said to have called Iyobosa a ‘half man’.

“No man have ever done that to the community by returning his wife for having a wide private part”, they said.

Ukwa West APC hails Buhari over NDDC, to recommend names for board

The Ukwa West local government area chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia State, last weekend, at Umuelechi, Asa, commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for his decision to recompose the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

The President had, in a press release signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina recently, approved that the Board of the NDDC be recomposed and inaugurated after the forensic audit of the organisation.

Addressing the stakeholders of the party in the local government, the Abia State deputy chairman of the party, Chief Ogunka Adiele John stated that the leadership of the party in the Ukwa East / Ukwa West federal constituency thought it necessary to hold a meeting to deliberate on the way forward, adding that the poor handling of NDDC appointments in the past accounted for the factionalisation of the party in the local government.

He said it became necessary for the leadership of the party to be pro-active by recommending names to the APC led federal government to avoid repeating previous mistakes which cost the party victory at the polls during the last general elections in the area, pointing out that it would be good for the input and recommendations of authentic APC leaders in Ukwa, being the only oil producing area in Abia State, to be considered during the recomposition of the NDDC board .

Chief John, who expressed confidence in Chief Sir Marc Wabara, APC chieftain and leader of the Ukwa East / Ukwa West federal constituency, traced the non performance of the NDDC to the fact that previous appointments into its board were influenced by people from outside the area.

The meeting, which was attended by party leaders and stakeholders from the three zones that make up the Ukwa West Local Government Area chapter of the APC, nominated three persons to be sent to the Presidency out of which they hope the President would graciously choose from to represent Abia State on the board of the NDDC.

Tony Momoh: Obasanjo, Shagari, Yar’adua, Jonathan never wanted to be President

0

Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information on Monday said only President Muhammadu Buhari became president of Nigeria by choice, adding that other past presidents in the country only came into office by accidents.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Independent, Momoh said past presidents such as Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan never wanted to be presidents but were picked by some powerbrokers for the position.

According to Momoh, Buhari Nigeria more than any other politician in Nigeria and that was why he joined politics in order to better the lives of the citizens.

“Buhari understood Nigeria more than any other politician in Nigeria. That being the case, he knew what Nigeria wanted before he came into politics. When he came into politics in 2002, he didn’t come to become Prime Minister or Senator, he wanted to be President of Nigeria”.

“It is a historical fact that Tafawa Balewa wanted to be a broadcaster, but he became a Prime Minister. Shehu Shagari wanted to become a senator, he became a President. Obasanjo was praying to leave prison, he came out and became President”.

“Umaru Yar’Adua had health problems, he wanted to lecture after leaving as governor, he became President. Goodluck Jonathan was the governor of Bayelsa State, they came to carry him, he didn’t know where they were going to but they took him to Abuja and said ‘You are the Vice-President’.

“Later, his principal (Yar’Adua died and he became the President. Buhari became President in 2015 after failing in 2003, 2007 and 2011. He was the most prepared for the position. He was the one who came into government because he wanted to be President” he said.

IPPIS: ASUU mobilises members for strike

0

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has threatened to embark on strike if the Accountant General of the Federation stops salaries of lecturers this January.

The association claimed the FG had noted that it would stop the salaries of the lecturers for failing to enrol for the Integrated Personnel and Payroll System (IPPIS).

ASUU said that a circular from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation ( AGF) was sent to all public universities last week Thursday with information to with-hold January salary of lecturers who refused to enrol in the IPPIS platform.

But ASUU stated that its congress members had resolved to activate no pay no work as soon as the government stopped its members’ salaries.

The Chairman University of Ibadan Chapter of ASUU, Professor Deji Omole while reacting to the development on Sunday in Ibadan maintained that the union was ready to pursue her stand on autonomy and infringement on FGN-ASUU agreement which IPPIS would erode.

Omole stated it was unfortunate that even the President could not be trusted after assuring the Union to look into the matter and set-up committee to harmonise UTAS and IPPIS tabled before him at the last meeting.

While saying the union would not be threatened to allow alleged “undemocratic public servant like Accountant General of the Federation to ridicule tertiary education,” ASUU said the move would throw public varsities into another crisis.

Omole said ASUU rejected IPPIS on point of law, principle and rule of law but has offered an alternative platform which has been named University Transparency and Accountability Solutions ( UTAS ), which would take care of university peculiarities.

According to Omole, if those ruling us are sincere they should ask their sons and daughters who school in Universities in the UK how Universities run.

“Only patriots can work in our hellish condition. Our position is that the principles of IPPIS are in contradiction to the principles of the autonomy of the university system and the constitution is clear enough because each university has its legal pattern and it doesn’t have provision for IPPIS and it does not even capture the peculiarities of the university system.

“We are ready for them. We are not slaves that can be subjected to routine humiliation by government appointees “.

Don’t Declare Orji Kalu Seat Vacant, APGA Chief Tells NASS

0

A member of Board of Trustees of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Dr David Bourdex, on Monday asked the National Assembly not to declare vacant the Abia North Senatorial seat, occupied by Orji Uzor Kalu.

Recall that a Federal High Court in Lagos had last year sentenced Kalu to 12 years’ imprisonment, for diverting the sum of N7.2bn while in office as the governor of Abia State.

Bourdex, who was also the APGA candidate for Abia North Senatorial seat in the 2019 general elections, said, “It is preposterous and presumptuous to make such a demand to declare his seat vacant.

Granted that the wheel of justice grinds slowly and surely, those of us in politics should strive to follow the rule of law without doing anything to circumvent the process. We should stand for fairness; and patience is necessary to ensure that justice is done both for the state and citizens and society at large.”
