Ubani blasts Ayade, says governance in Cross River now pure comedy, absurdly of lawlessness

0

A human right lawyer, and Former 2ND Vice President of NBA, Barr. Monday Onyekachi Ubani has taken a swipe at the governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade for allegedly reducing the seriousness attached to the business of governance in the past four years to what he called pure comedy.

Barr. Ubani in a statement he personally signed and obtained by ABN TV said this comedy is manifestly seen in the nomenclature the Governor has adopted in his budget presentation and other activities of governance in the state.

For the past four and half years, governance in Cross River state has been elevated to pure comedy sadly. Whether with budget presentation or provision of basic infrastructures, they are usually accompanied with so much fanfare and drama thereby reducing the seriousness that ordinarily should be attached to these solemn events.

“The name of the current budget in the State is “Olimpotic Meristamesis”, something no normal being can pronounce with ease, and one can imagine when it comes to implementing a budget whose name is strange and difficult to explain or understand. In short, another name for governance is comedy and drama in that part of the country” he said.

He also decried what he described as highest absurdity between the Governor, members of the bar and bench in the state particularly the Governor’s refusal to confirm the Acting Chief judge of the state as a substantive one and other serious issues raised against the governor.

However, nowhere is the drama taken to the highest absurdity other than in the judiciary. Recall that the retired Chief Judge of the State, Justice Michael Edem had a running battle with the governor to the extent that the official abode of the Chief Judge is reportedly occupied presently by the sister of the governor, Professor Ben Ayade, a former Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

“The governor did not stop at that, he has had a more fierce battle with lawyers both in private and public service. Presently there are several cases against the state government in court over the excesses and abuse of power by the state governor. The executive has regrettably turned the state into a place where lawlessness and anarchy reign supreme.

“Nigerians’ attention is hereby drawn to the drama playing out with the confirmation of the Chief Judge of the State who has been on acting capacity for the past three months. As a requirement of the law, two names were sent to the National Judicial Council for selection. The revered body headed by the current Chief Justice of Nigeria, selected the most qualified candidate of the two, and forwarded same to the State Governor for onward transmission to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as prescribed by the Constitution.

“The most senior judge in the service, Honorablw Justice Akon Ikpeme who incidentally is the preferred candidate of the NJC has been left in acting capacity since then and her tenure in acting capacity will expire next Monday being the 2nd of March, 2020. As I write, the confirmation of the chosen Justice has not been effected due to unnecessary politics that have been introduced into the entire process”.

He attributed the delay in confirmation of the state CJ to the Governor’s interest in another candidate rather than the one recommended by the NJC.

It is reported that the root cause of the intrigue is from the table of the state governor who prefers another candidate, Justice Maurice Eneji who sadly is a junior member of the bench to Honorable Justice Akon Ikpeme the current Acting Chief Judge. This choice of the Governor who is from Bekwarra local government area, next to that of the governor and the home of his grandmother is a violent violation of hierarchy in judicial appointment known and established both at the States and Federal level.

“Most unfortunately is the role of the State House of Assembly in this whole saga. It is reported that the name of the Acting Chief Judge was submitted since January for the house to act, but unfortunately the House has been having clandestine meetings trying to scuttle the ratification of Honorable Justice Ikpeme as the Chief Judge of the State on the grounds of tribalism. The allegation which is yet to be verified is that some members of the House were given N500,000 each to vote against Honorable Justice Akon Ikpeme on the ground that she is not an indigene but married to a native of Odukpani local government area in the State. That this is happening in the 21st century and in Nigeria of our time is not only sacrilegious but most appalling! They may want to pander to the choice of the state governor between now and Monday! God forbid.

“The attention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and by extension the NJC are hereby drawn to this sad development evolving from Cross River State and they are advised to put their feet down and insist on the age long tradition of respecting seniority and merit in the appointment of the substantive Chief Judge of the State. The NBA both at the National and State level should resist the attempt by the State Government to destroy the time hallowed practice where merit, seniority, experience and wisdom triumph over other sentimental considerations in the choice of who becomes the Chief Judge of the State. Nigerians are tired of our institutions setting dangerous precedents in all facets of our national life. This contemplated absurd precedent should be resisted forthwith by well meaning Nigerians in the legal profession.

” A stitch in time saves nine!” he concluded.

“I Can Make My Son Chief Of Staff And Nobody Will Do Anything” — Gov Akeredolu

0

Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of Ondo state, says Babajide, his son, worked hard during his campaign and there is nothing anyone can do if he decides to appoint him as his chief of staff.

Speaking at government house, Akure, during a dinner organised in commemoration of his third anniversary as governor, Akeredolu said his son worked harder than most members of the campaign.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governor, who is seeking another term, charged the people to put in their best so he could secure another term.

“When somebody says Baba (Babajide) is this, I just laugh at them. If I wanted to make Baba my chief of staff, he can be; did you do more than him in the campaign? Ask yourself, how many of you did more than Baba in the campaign? How many?” he asked.

“The young boy was going everywhere and all of us saw him but we decided not to because he wouldn’t want it. My son is satisfied, that’s why. If he is not, I will put him somewhere, there is nothing anybody can do. I will put him there, there is nothing you can do. Is he not my son? Is he not from Ondo state? Has he not worked?”

Akeredolu also said he is ready to confront members of Unity Forum, a faction of the party allegedly frustrating his attempt to get a second term ticket.

“Buhari’s Successor Is An Ex-governor In Prison” – Pastor Reveals

0

Prophet Joshua Arogun who predicted the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election has again predicted that Buhari’s successor is a former governor from the South who is in prison at the moment.

During the church service on Sunday in Lagos, the General Overseer of Light of the World International Church, said it is his primary duty tell people anything God reveals to him.

He said: “I am a prophet of God and by the grace of God, anything the Lord tells us comes to pass because we hear from Him; we don’t hear from men. We don’t rely on public opinion for prophesies.  We are not afraid of what people will say when such prophesies are given to us to tell the people. When we hear from the Lord, we tell people no matter how it is  interpreted .It is left for people to take it.

“Before the election last year, God told me that President Buhari would be re-elected; . And God told me a lot of things about Buhari. It is He that anointed him to be  the president and there is no questions about that.  No one can change it . The people can hate him: the people can reject him but God has ordained him, and there is something about God. When He says that you would be this, no man can change it. He does what pleases Him”

The religious leader told the congregation that while they were praying,  he received a clear message about 2023 election and how it would manifest.

He said: “I got a revelation about Nigeria’s political dynamics in the next general election. I saw a man in Prison and this man has been a former Governor from the South East  taking over from President Buhari . There is absolutely nothing one can do about someone’s destiny especially when sanctioned by God. Everything that happens in life is for a reason. I saw renewed alliances among the political class and across the political parties and I saw this country reuniting more than it has ever done before . God loves Nigeria so much. Nigeria is a big country, and is blessed with human and natural resources.

Pastor Arogun asked his congregation to pray more for the revelation. He also called on the congregation to pray for Nigeria at this period of pandemic disease outbreak in the world. He said prayers should be conducted on behalf of researchers to find a cure for the coronavirus before it spreads more.

“Nigeria Would Have Been A Better Place If My Husband Did Not Die” – Yar’Adua’s Wife

0

Ex-First Lady Turai and late ex-President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Madam Turai Musa Yar’Adua, wife of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, has lamented that Nigeria is in a precarious state today because her husband’s regime was cut short by his sickness and eventual death.

She noted that Nigeria would have been much better if the late President had finished his tenure but for the lingering sickness that eventually terminated his vision-driven life.

The situation in Nigeria would have been better had my husband, the late President, survived his ailment because he was a focused, committed and determined leader.

“Although my husband was sick for a long time, he did his very best for Nigeria. Also as governor of Katsina State, he did his best for the state; he is an honest man who believed in service,” she said.

Underscoring the humility of Musa Yar’Adua, she said he once told her that his relatives would quarrel with her after his death as they would think that he had left so much money.

The former First Lady, who spoke at a recent memorial lecture in honour of the late President in Katsina, also said: “The late Yar’Adua was not a materialist leader who believed in accumulating wealth. In fact, he shunned material things as his slogan was service to humanity.

“There was a time he said to me: ‘Turai, I pity you because when I die you will have quarrels with my relatives because they will think I have so much money in my possession’.”

Extolling his virtues as a leader, Madam Turai said the late President would not give out a contract without having the money to pay for it.

There was a time I approached him that people are complaining that the government was slow. But he said to me, ‘people can say whatever they like but I will not give out the contract if I have no money to pay’.

“The late Umaru was a kind of leader that would go out and monitor projects. I could recall when I used to join him to supervise hospital and road projects,” she said.
