Nigeria’s 43 Ministers have donated 50% of their March 2020 salaries to support Federal Government’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nigeria has recorded 81 cases with one death and three discharged as of March 27, 2020.

Though what the 50% amounted to was not disclosed, a statement in Abuja on Saturday stated that the Minister of State for Transportation, Senator Gbemisola Saraki will coordinate the donation.

The statement further quoted Saraki as saying it was a gesture of solidarity and support for the Federal Government’s efforts to tackle the disease.

”This global virus outbreak will require nations, continents and smaller communities to pull together to contribute their resources and support one another.

“This will facilitate an early resolution of the problem,” Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed further quoted Senator Saraki as saying.

The Ministers also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership role in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has ordered a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the state after two new confirmed cases were confirmed and 84 new suspected infections were discovered.

Makinde made this known via a series of tweets on Saturday morning.

This is coming a few hours after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced that Oyo had recorded three cases of COVID-19.

The governor also banned all inter-states transportation into and out of the state, shuts markets and restricted gatherings to not more than 10 persons.

He tweeted, “The COVID-19 confirmation test for two suspected cases has come back positive. The isolation process has been initiated. 84 Persons of Interest have been identified, and contact tracing and collection of samples have commenced.

“The state’s diagnostic centre set up in collaboration with the University College Hospital is now ready. The @NCDCgov certification is still pending but the Director-General of NCDC has made a pre-statement about the molecular laboratory in Oyo State.

“The index case remains stable and is still under observation in the isolation unit at Agbami Chest Centre, Jericho. The number of confirmed cases in Oyo State is now three.

“As a result of this, I have directed that the following additional measures be put in place: a dusk-to-dawn curfew (7 pm to 6 am); no gatherings of more than 10 people should be held anywhere in Oyo State.

“From Sunday night, March 29, 2020, all markets will be closed except those selling perishable food items.

“Also, inter-state transportation into and out of the state will be suspended except vehicles carrying food items, medical, pharmaceutical and petroleum products. This takes effect from Sunday night, March 29, 2020. All measures will be reviewed on a weekly basis.”

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed eleven new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Eight new cases were confirmed in Lagos, two in Enugu state and one in Edo state

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 81.

According to the NCDC, “11 new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria: 8 in Lagos, 2 in Enugu & 1 in Edo State, As at 11:55 pm 27th March, there are 81 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 3 have been discharged with 1 death.”

The National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed five new cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

Three new cases were confirmed in FCT, and two in Oyo state

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 70.

However, three have been discharged, with one death recorded so far.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has donated N50m to fight the deadly Coronavirus across Southeast Nigeria.

Kanu made the announcement in a broadcast via Radio Biafra, monitored by ABN TV on Friday.
