Princess Maria Teresa Of Spain Dies Of Coronavirus

0

Princess Maria Teresa of Spain has died aged 86 after testing positive for coronavirus.

The princess, of the Bourbon-Parma Royal Family in Spain, passed away yesterday her younger brother, Prince Sixtus Henry of Bourbon-Parma, announced.

She was born in Paris, France on July 28, 1933 to parents, Prince Xavier and Madeleine de Bourbon, who had a total of six children.

The royals are members of the House of Bourbon-Parma which is a cadet branch of the Spanish royal family, descended from the French Capetian dynasty.

A cadet branch is created when a young member of a Royal Family, who is not the current heir, is granted lands and titles of his own.

Members of the family once ruled as King of Etruria and as Duke of Parma and Piacenza, Guastalla, and Lucca until 1859.

Princess Maria did not have any children of her own. But she is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, including Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Parma, Duke of Parma and Piacenza, Princess Margarita and Prince Jaime.

The news comes after it was revealed Prince Charles, 71, has a ‘mild’ form of the illness.

He is on the Balmoral estate with his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, who has tested negative and is without any symptoms of the virus, which has killed 435 and infected 8,200 more in the UK so far.

It comes as Spain registered a record number of coronavirus deaths in a single-day period with the army now being handed emergency powers to transfer bodies because undertakers are unable to cope.

The number of deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours is 832, it emerged this morning, bringing the nation’s death toll to 5,690 since the outbreak began.

Today’s tally beats the previous Spanish record for a single day of 769 coronavirus which was recorded on Friday.

It puts Spain now firmly in second place as the worst-hit nation ahead of China with 3,295 in total.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, says the report that Nigerians with bank verification number (BVN) will be given N30,000 as relief fund is false.

The report, which went viral on Friday, said Adesina issued a statement to that effect.

The said amount was to help Nigerians “stock up their home during the stay-at-home order by the government”.

As a way of reducing the spread of COVID-19, both federal and state governments placed restrictions on public gathering.

In a tweet on Saturday, Adesina asked Nigerians to disregard the information.

“Fake news peddlers have concocted a statement, purportedly issued by me, saying FG will pay N30,000 to each Nigerian with BVN, to help them stock up before an impending national lockdown. Not me. The so-called statement is hereby disclaimed,” he tweeted.

The pandemic has led to a lockdown in some countries where relief materials are provided for citizens.

Taking on Adesina’s tweet, some Nigerians asked if the government has any plan to help its citizens at this time.

Below are some responses to Adesina’s tweet:

He also said the presidency was wrong when they alleged that he (Imam of Peace) was seeking attention from Buhari, describing him as weak, irrelevant, nothing and nobody at the international level, emphasizing that he has no reason to seek attention from Nigeria’s President.

“I’m here offering peace, methods to achieve peace. We are talking about negotiations and they tried to frame it that I am seeking an audience with Buhari. Who the hell is Buhari? Nobody knows Buhari outside Nigeria. Who is Buhari? If he walks in America, nobody will even know who he is. If he walks anywhere, Los Angeles or New York, nobody knows who he is. I’m seeking an audience with him? Who is he? He is nobody. He is a nobody on the international level. When talking in international level diplomacy, he is nobody. He has no power. He doesn’t have any influence. Not on the United Nations, not in America, not in the UK, not in any country. He’s nothing because of his actions and weak leadership, nobody cares about him. He can’t even control his own country. Do you think people are going to care about you when you travel? I’m talking the real talk I’m not here to play politics with you. Who cares about Buhari” he queried.

EXCLUSIVE: Igbos Exposed To Risks By Unguarded Statements By Unauthorised Sources In Ohanaeze, Composer Of Biafra Anthem Alleges

0

The man behind the composition of the popular Biafra national anthem, Chief Charles Okereke has expressed fear over the state of the pan-Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, saying the continuous issuance of statements by unauthorized sources who parade themselves as members of the group or its affiliates exposes the generality of Ndigbo to threats.

Mr. Okereke in interaction with ABN TV on Friday did not however categorically mention the particular affiliate group, he emphasized that there is a need for co-ordinated leadership between the national body of Ohanaeze and those he said are parading as the youth wing of the body.

“They are people running afoul of the rules, going about insulting people and sometimes they are not even credible or part of the decision-making organ of Ohanaeze.

“Everybody is part of Ohanaeze Ndigbo but what I am saying is that somebody cannot come out without consulting us, going about saying things that may get us in trouble. And that is what is happening.

“They use the Nigerian dailies very well to say things that entail security risk to our people. They talk about the deployment of Christian soldiers to the South, Fulani herdsmen, this and that. They can speak for themselves and cannot be speaking for Ohanaeze. Even Nnia Nwodo, if he wants to say anything, he has to consult “IME OBI” and the people before he goes to say anything on behalf of Ohanaeze”, he said.

He warned that those who go about releasing statements on behalf of Ohanaeze Ndigbo should learn to make consultations, insisting that it portends a serious risk to the generality of Ndigbo globally.

With the title, “Cry of Biafran Child” the song was later renamed the Biafra national anthem.
Mr. Okereke, an indigene of Bende local government area of Abia state said he composed the song at the age of 14 in 1970 when Biafra officially surrendered.

The song won African Union anthem competition in 2003 on behalf of Nigeria, a feat for which he said he was not recognized by the country and his state, Abia.
