55 COVID-19 Patients Recover In Madagascar After Treatment With “Herbal Drug”

At least 55 COVID-19 patients in Madagascar have recovered after being treated with the country’s herbal remedy for the disease.

55 COVID-19 patients said to have been “cured” with the drug — which is bottled as herbal tea — rose after three recoveries were announced on Saturday.

According to L’Express de Madagascar, the patients were among those that were administered the drug known as COVID-Organics since it was launched in April.

It did not state if there was any supplementary treatment but reported that “treatment of (COVID-19) patients has been based” on the drug since it was introduced.

“The same day that the CVO herbal tea was launched, two coronavirus patients who consumed it came out cured,” L’Express de Madagascar reported.

“Until yesterday, fifty-five people have been declared cured since the adoption of CVO herbal tea treatment twenty days ago.”

It added that to aid the fight against COVID-19, the drug is being distributed freely in parts of the country.

We Are Owed Seven Months Salaries – Abuja Doctors

Doctors employed by the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja last year are being owed salaries between three to seven months, the Association of Resident Doctors, FCT, has said.

The doctors also complained about suspicious deductions from the salaries of old doctors after they were registered on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System.

This is contained in a communiqué issued after a virtual council meeting on May 7, 2020, and signed by Dr Mustapha Ibrahim, the General Secretary of ARDFCTA.

The doctors said they would have embarked on a strike on May 1, 2020, but decided to put it on hold.

The document read in part, “The council noted with dismay the haphazard nature in which the April 2020 salaries was paid by IPPIS with no prior sensitisation or explanation despite the April 30 deadline for all matters connected therewith be resolved.

“Most newly employed members were still omitted in the payment of April 2020 salaries bringing the total months owed them to between three-seven months.

“There is an established community transmission of COVID 19 in Abuja with four of our members already exposed following the confirmation of two cases at Wuse District Hospital.

“Despite Management’s assertion of the provision of adequate PPEs across all the general hospitals, it was noted by the council that some of these PPEs are still been hoarded by some units as members do not readily access these apparels when attending to suspected cases.

“Exposed members are subjected to a lot of psychological trauma during this period of self-isolation.”

The acting General Manager, Hospital Services, FCT, Frank Alu, neither responded to phone calls nor a text message as of press time.

Chinese Don’t Want Africans In China – Abike Dabiri-Erewa

Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians in China to continue to demand their right, noting that it was clear the Chinese do not want Africans in their country.

The Abike Dabiri-Erewa also urged China to respect the rights of Nigerians, noting that there were many illegal Chinese migrants in Nigeria, who are not being singled out for maltreatment by the Nigerian Government

She spoke during a town hall meeting held via Zoom with Nigerians in the America’s on Saturday.

Among others, Dabiri-Erewa addressed questions on business, health and politics as it concerns Nigerians in the Diaspora.

While reacting to a question on what the Nigerian Government was doing to address the discrimination and maltreatment of Nigerians in China, she said, “The issue of China has been recurring and I have been to the Chinese Embassy a couple of times, putting into consideration what has been happening to Nigerians in China.

“I will be very realistic with the issue of Africans in China…what I am seeing is that they don’t want Africans in China. Some businessmen are stranded there but when you want to your home, they don’t allow you. In China, if you don’t have a residence, you can’t get a permit.”

Dabiri-Erewa noted that talks were ongoing to address the maltreatment.

She urged Nigerians to obey the laws of the Chinese Government and try to stay out of trouble.

She added, “It is still tough for Nigerians in China. It (maltreatment) is still going on and it has to be dealt with. Right now, there is a little bit of sanity but we don’t know how long it will last but there has to be a permanent solution to the issue of blacks being maltreated in China.

“We need to build a world of peace and love. There has to be reciprocity: Respect me and I respect you, treat me well and I treat you well. They should demand their right and obey their laws too but the laws should not be discriminatory.”

Ex-Governor Of Ogun State Aide, Giwa, Dies At 58

A media aide to the former governor of Ogun State, Chief Gbenga Daniel, Ayomide Giwa, is dead.

Giwa, a seasoned journalist, was until his death at the age of 58 years, the Chief Press Officer to Daniel, and also served as a top media aide to the former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon (Mrs) Titi Oseni-Gomez.

The information has it that Ayo Giwa died on Sunday night, after a brief illness.

Daniel in a statement described his late aide, Ayo Giwa was a dedicated and loyal staff.

He said, “I received the very shocking news of the sudden death of our own Ayo Giwa last night after a brief illness.

“Ayo Giwa was one of the original Gateway Front Media team since 2001. After the election in 2003, he emerged as the Chief Press Secretary of the then Speaker of the House of Assembly, The Rt Hon Mrs. Titi Oseni-Gomez. He later became my CPS in 2011, which position he held until his demise last night.

“Ayo Giwa was an amiable and pleasant personality who concentrated on his job with dedication and loyalty. It is most unfortunate that he passed on at this time and all we can do is to pray for the family left behind that God will grant them the fortitude to bear the  irreparable loss.”

Ayo Giwa remains will be committed to mother earth by 3.00 pm according to Islamic injunctions, at Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the state.

Air Force Chief, Uko Ebong Forfeits N510m To FG Over Alleged Fraud

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted an order of interim forfeiture of N510million contained in an account belonging to a company – Elioenai International College, allegedly owned by former Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Uko Etim Ebong.

Justice Ahmed Mohammed granted. the order in a ruling on Monday on an ex-parte application filed and argued by lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ekele Iheanacho.

The EFCC claimed that the money formed part of the N731million allegedly paid to AVM Ebong, through a company with which he allegedly has a link – Magnificent 5 Ventures Limited, from the office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) without any contractual agreement.

According to the EFCC, AVM Ebong was the Commander PAF between 2013 and July 2015.

In the ruling on Monday, Justice Mohammed said he was convinced that the EFCC has made out a case to warrant the grant of the interim forfeiture order.

The judge said: “An order is hereby made for the interim forfeiture of the sum of N510,000,000 in Sterling Bank account No: 0029581583 recovered by the applicant, which funds are reasonably suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities.”

Justice Mohammed further ordered the EFCC to publicise the said order and for anyone who is interested in the funds in respect of which the order was made, to appear before the court and show cause, within 14 days, why the money should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.

FG Yet To Show Interest In Our COVID-19 Drug – Prof. Iwu

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bioresources Development Group (BDG), Prof. Maurice Iwu has stated that the Federal Government is yet to show interest in drug presented by his team of researchers for COVID-19.

Iwu made this known during Zoom Conference organised by Elombah Communications in collaboration with Njenje Media Ltd, tagged “Covid-19 and the proposed Vaccination Bill: Implications for Nigeria”.

The former INEC boss, who led a team of researchers had presented a plant-based patented treatment for COVID-19 to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

But, Iwu while speaking at the Zoom Conference, said the government is yet to show interest in the drug calling on the National Assembly to organise emergency Public hearing on this issue.

He said the lawmakers through their oversight function should direct agency concern to fast track the process of validating the drug.

Iwu said,” Government needs to show interest in our drug, the money raised by private sectors can be deployed, it does not need to come to Prof. Iwu, it is information, the product is ours, but the information is already outside.

“There must be interest on the part of government that they want to test the drug, once the government shows interest, every other thing will fall in place.”

He said the lawmakers can have a public hearing on the drug and ask why the validation for the drug is taking longer than necessary.

Ikpeazu Orders Quarantine of Family Who Smuggled COVID-19 Corpse to Abia

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has ordered a 14-day quarantine of the family who reportedly smuggled the corpse of a COVID-19 victim back to Abia State.

ABN TV reports that the Abia State Government has received multiple intelligence and confirmation of certain persons and families of Abia origin currently residing in states with rising cases of COVID-19 planning to bring home corpses of family members suspected to have died from the virus for burial in our communities in total violation of the existing ban on inter-state movement and without notification or approval from relevant authorities in the state.

The most worrisome case is that of a family that recently sneaked into the state during the weekend with the corpse of their father who allegedly died of COVID-19 in Kano and was ferried to a community in Umuahia South LGA where unsuspecting citizens have been going to mourn with them unprotected.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the ministry of homeland security to immediately ensure the quarantine of everyone in the compound of the affected family pending when the medical rapid response team has fully collected and tested samples of all those involved including their visitors/mourners.

For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to restate that whoever enters our state during this period of ban on interstate movement is in breach of state and federal regulations and will have themselves to blame as the law will be applied to the fullest in order to protect the people of Abia State.

All village heads, traditional rulers and community leaders must take responsibility to stop and/or report any person or group of persons that enter their community from outside the state within this period or face necessary sanctions.

On no account should any corpse from outside the state be brought into any community for burial or preservation in a mortuary without the written approval of the state or local government concerned.

Mortuaries in the state are also not permitted to receive such corpses without obtaining a permit from relevant local or state authorities to avoid immediate sanctions including the closure of the facility.

The morgue operators should also endeavour to report families with such corpses to the relevant authorities.

Furthermore, the Governor has directed the enforcement team of the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 to impound all commercial inter-state vehicles operating within this period and quarantine both the drivers and passengers at the nearest general hospital for a minimum period of 21 days.

Finally, we wish to appeal to our people not to see the partial relaxation of the lockdown in the state as an excuse to lower their guards as we will not hesitate to do whatever is needful, including reimposing full lockdown in the state, to protect the majority of our people from being infected with COVID-19.

We strongly advise citizens and residents of the state to remain wherever they are within or outside the state until this pandemic is over.

COVID-19 Positive Almajiri Kids Need Care Not Publicity – Ganduje

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has called on his counterparts in the north to avoid ‘making noise’ about COVID-19 positive Almajiri kids and rather give them necessary care.

ABN TV reports that the governor who was speaking at a media briefing on Sunday said the fact that he is not making noise doesn’t mean all Almajiri brought back to Kano from other northern states are healthy.

“We agreed at the Northern Governors Forum that all Almajiris moved to their states of origin.

“That is why we are sending, in good faith and procedures, all Almajiris that are not from Kano state to their respective states of origin.

“The way we are sending back Almajiris to their states of origin, we are also receiving Almajiris from other states who are Kano indigenous.

“But the fact that we are not making noise about it does not mean they are all healthy without COVID-19 infections.

“We are not making politics out of it because we all believe that what they need most now, is not noise making or publicity. What they need at this critical point in time is care giving,” he said.

The Kano State Governor has sent hundreds of Almajiri back to their states of origin with many of them COVID-19 positive when they were tested upon their return to their respective states.

The move had attracted criticism, but Ganduje defended the state’s action, saying it was mutually agreed by northern governors.

“People should also understand that these children were not infected in the process of transporting them to their respective states. So noise making is not fit as a way forward.

“All we are doing is simply to comply with the Northern Governors’ Forum decision that all Almajiris in our states should be taken back to their respective states, simple,” Ganduje said.

Kano State government had earlier commenced the evacuation of Almajiri kids to their respective states of origin most of whom have now been tested positive for COVID-19.

Governor Ganduje at the briefing stressed that he also received Almajiri kids from other northern states some of who tested positive but he decided not to make noise about it.

Fasting, Heat Killing People In Jigawa, Not COVID-19 – Jigawa Senator

Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, senator representing Jigawa north, says fasting, heat and ill health are responsible for some of the recent deaths in Jigawa, not COVID-19.

There were reports on dozens of people who died mysteriously in Hadejia local government area of the state within four days, with some attributing the deaths to COVID-19.

But in an interview with Vanguard, the senator said a committee set up by the state government found “only 46 deaths” and there was no proof that COVID-19 was responsible.

He said all those who died recently were elderly people who had health challenges, adding that although they were told not to fast, they did eventually.

“A five-man committee which has a World Health Organisation, WHO, a member found only 46 deaths throughout Jigawa. That committee was set up by the governor when he heard the news.

The committee went to Hadejia, looking for the veracity of the so-called 100 deaths,” Hadejia said.

“They did a verbal post-mortem. You know once somebody dies, our people bury him immediately.

So, the team asked questions from the relatives of the dead and if there was strong suspicion, they had them tested as well.

For now, all the tests done of everybody around the dead, including children and wives, that is over 70 per cent tests are done, have all come back negative.

“That says a lot. Now there is [also a] malaria problem in Hadejia, also the temperature around there has been unusually high, 241 degrees, and our people are all fasting.

“All the people reported dead were elderly with health challenges. Even when you tell them not to fast, they bluntly refused.

“The fasting, the heat, coupled with the health status, affected the elders and they died.”

The senator added that the steps taken by the Jigawa government would curb the spread of the disease.

So far, Jigawa has 38 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Lagos Govt Shut Down Hotels, Night Clubs In Badagry

The Lagos State Government has shut down two facilities in Badagry West LCDA of the state for contravening new guidelines issued by the government to operators of hotels, night clubs, and other entertainment outfits in the state.

The facilities include Maggi Hotel, and Tambari Theatre Art (Night Clubs). This was disclosed by the state government in a tweet via its official handle.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Solomon Bonu, said amid the lockdown, the nightclub has become a place for immoral activities.

“It was also discovered that there is a high level of immorality going on in these places. The Night Club has become home for strippers, drug barons, and all sorts of mischief,” Bonu said.

The Special Adviser expressed displeasure with the unlawful practices by the management of the two facilities, stressing that the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture were not followed in spite of several advocacies by the state government.

Bonu added that legal action will be instituted against the owners of the hotels and night clubs to ensure appropriate sanctions are meted out.

He, therefore, pleaded with residents to provide useful information that would assist in discovering other hotels and clubhouses still operating in different parts of Lagos despite restrictions by the state government.
