The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has rekindled the cold war between him and the leader of the Biafra Independent Movement (BIM) Ralph Uwazuruike, as he claimed the former Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) is usurping the struggles of his group to realise a Biafra nation.

Kanu in a radio Biafra broadcast on Monday particularly took a swipe on Uwazuruike for allegedly taking the matters of the Igbo to the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organisation (UNPO) in The Hague, Netherlands.

His actions he claimed belittle the struggles made by several Igbo groups to recognized bodies such as the United Nations Organisation (UNO).

The IPOB leader who alleged Uwazuruike paid two thousand dollars to smuggle a letter to UNPO to get the attention of the union towards Igbo’s plight in Nigeria maintained that his action does not worth it.

He maintained that IPOB had already gotten the attention of well-known groups such as the UN and AU, wondering why Uwazuruike should belittle the efforts put into the struggle by other Igbo pressure groups.

According to Kanu “all, because he wants to be relevant because he knows we are getting Biafra soon, he now ran to UNPO that has the same status with our World Igbo Congress.”

He continued “UNPO has nothing to do with Biafra, Uwazuruike has destroyed Biafra name, a man who built his house with Biafra money, he said he has taken Biafra to UNPO, is UNPO part of UN, the group has nothing to do with Biafra.

“Biafra can not be built on lies, you are warned, you have Nigeria blood in you, stop deceiving the people and yourself, we would get Biafra without you, very soon I will be in United States to address the Umuada, they will welcome me, we shall see the true support.” Kanu boasted.

An ‘exceptional’ mother-of-four nurse who devoted her life to terminally-ill children has become the latest healthcare worker to be killed by COVID-19 in Britain, the Daily Mail of UK reported.

Eyitolami Olaolorun had been a nurse for 40 years, most recently working at Wellington Hospital, a private centre in St John’s Wood, caring for young patients who were critically or terminally ill.

Ms Olaolorun, 60, also worked for the NHS at various hospitals and raised her four children by herself, having arrived in the UK from Nigeria almost 20 years ago after splitting with her husband.

“She raised all four of us by herself. We’re all graduates, we’re all doing well. That’s all because of her, she sacrificed everything for us.”

On Sunday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson relaxed the Government’s ‘stay home, protect the NHS, save lives’ slogan to instead tell people to ‘stay alert, control the virus, save lives’.

After the death of her mother, Mrs Iloba said: “Stay home. When it hits home, you realise how dangerous the situation is. You realise, yes, the NHS are heroes but let’s not put their lives at risk as well.

“Let’s not be selfish in our expectations of the NHS by going out, irrespective of what Mr Johnson has said, let’s not go out and think we’re immune to anything – we’re not.

“By going out you’re putting doctors’ and nurses’ lives at risk and they have families … families who care for them, families who love them and families who want them to survive this pandemic. You just need to stay home.”

Ms Olaolorun started showing symptoms of COVID-19 in late March and was taken to hospital before being put onto a ventilator on April 6.

“I called her and she was crying,” Mrs Iloba said.

“I realised something was wrong and got my sister who is a doctor to call the hospital… they explained she would be put on a ventilator and sedated.

“She must have been told already but she was trying not to tell us so that we wouldn’t be worried.

“We called her back in a four-way call on WhatsApp – She said ‘I’ll see you guys later they’re just wheeling me off’ we said ‘alright I’ll see you soon’ and that was the last thing we said to her.”

Ms Olaolorun was put on a ventilator before being moved from Ealing Hospital to Charing Cross Hospital, where she died ten days later.

Ms Olaolorun’s children have made a GoFundMe page and foundation in their mother’s name to help young people in Nigeria to access higher education.

Nigeria Records 242 New Cases Of COVID-19, Total Now 4,641

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), on Monday, announced that the country has recorded 242 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total number of infections in Nigeria to 4,641.

The NCDC disclosed this on its verified Twitter handle and website on Monday night.

We’ll Release Orji Kalu At Completion of Administrative Procedures – Kuje Prisons

The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS, (Kuje Prisons) on Monday assured that the Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu will be released at the completion of administrative procedures.

Speaking with journalists, the Public Relations Officer of the Service, DCC Austin Njoku dismissed speculations that it was holding unto Senator Orji Uzor Kalu due to certain vested interests.

He noted that the NCoS was yet to receive the certified true copy of the judgement of the apex court authorising the said release from its custody.

He said: “How can we refuse to release him? What is our business with the judgement of the court? We have no business in keeping anybody at will.

“We were not at the Supreme Court. Our own is when they bring the papers for us to release him. The judgement was just on Friday. If papers are transmitted and his name is mentioned as someone to be released, we will release him.

“We do not keep people against the law. The law does not permit us to do that. We have no business in keeping him. If they bring the papers to us, we will authenticate the papers to ascertain that it is from a reliable source and we will release him.”

How Ikpeazu’s Proactiveness Saved Abia From COVID-19 Invasion — Ijiriji

Hon. Emmanuel Ndubuisi popularly known as Ijiriji has commended the Abia State governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his intervention in ensuring that the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic does not invade the state.

Ijiriji is the member representing Bende South Constituency, Abia State House of Assembly.

The lawmaker said the low number of confirmed cases in Abia State is a testimony that the governor’s proactiveness through lockdown, ban on interstate travels as well as the closure of markets and worship centres were fruitful in curbing the spread of the disease in the state.

In a chat with ABN TV on Monday, Hon. Ndubuisi also commended governor Ikpeazu for the provision of palliatives for the people of the State to cushion the effects of the lockdown, insisting that Abia would have been in daredevil trouble if not for the quick move made by the governor to save the people of the State from the pandemic.

While stating that he was among the first legislators to have provided food palliatives to families in Bende South, transport unions, artisans as well as cash disbursement to the less privileged in the constituency, he applauded local government chairmen for assisting the people during this period, including Nigerians in Diaspora, especially those from his Constituency for providing palliatives to the people.

The Abia state governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has urged people of the State living in places with rising COVID-19 cases to remain where they are till the pandemic is over, insisting that the interstate travel ban in the state is still in force despite the partial relaxation of lockdown.

He also cautioned mortuary attendants not to receive corpses of individuals suspected to have died of COVID-19 without obtaining a permit from relevant authorities in the state, stating that violation of this instruction will lead to a total closure of such facilities.

In a release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu and made available to ABN TV on Monday, Ikpeazu expressed regret that despite the ban on interstate travels in the state, a family recently sneaked into the state during the weekend with the corpse of their father who allegedly died of COVID-19 in Kano and was ferried to a community in Umuahia South LGA where unsuspecting citizens have been going to mourn with them unprotected.

To this end, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the ministry of homeland security to immediately ensure that everyone in the compound of the affected family is quarantined pending when the medical rapid response team has fully collected and tested samples of all those involved including their visitors/mourners.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to restate that whoever enters our state during this period of ban on interstate movement is in breach of state and federal regulations and will have themselves to blame as the law will be applied to the fullest in order to protect the people of Abia State.

“All village heads, traditional rulers and community leaders must take responsibility to stop and/or report any person or group of persons that enter their community from outside the state within this period or face necessary sanctions. On no account should any corpse from outside the state be brought into any community for burial or preservation in a mortuary without the written approval of the state or local government concerned. Mortuaries in the state are also not permitted to receive such corpses without obtaining permits from relevant local or state authorities to avoid immediate sanctions including the closure of the facility. The morgue operators should also endeavor to report families with such corpses to the relevant authorities.

“Furthermore, the Governor has directed the enforcement team of the inter-ministerial committee on COVID-19 to impound all commercial inter-state vehicles operating within this period and quarantine both the drivers and passengers at the nearest general hospital for a minimum period of 21 days.

“Finally, we wish to appeal to our people not to see the partial relaxation of the lockdown in the state as an excuse to lower their guards as we will not hesitate to do whatever is needful, including reimposing full lockdown in the state, to protect the majority of our people from being infected with COVID-19.

“We strongly advise citizens and residents of the state to remain wherever they are within or outside the state till this pandemic is over” he said.

A 38-year old man, Patrick Ayesan has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for impregnating his daughter.

He is a resident of Iguobasuwa in Okosa area, Ovia South-West of Edo State

Ayesan who confessed to his crime and pleaded guilty in court before his sentencing stated that he usually slept with his daughter anytime he gets the urge.

Premier League To Resume Next Month As Government Give Green Light

The Premier League could resume behind closed doors as early as June 1 after the Government gave the green light to restart the season.

A 60-page roadmap was unveiled by the Government on Monday afternoon in which various protocols were outlined including the return of professional sport.

And, as part of his plan to bring the UK out of lockdown, Boris Johnson has stated that sport will be permitted to be broadcast from behind closed doors from the start of next month at the earliest.

Under phase two of the Prime Minister’s coronavirus plan, which cannot begin any earlier than June 1, the document confirms they will allow “cultural and sporting events to take place behind-closed-doors for broadcast while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact.”

The news is a welcome boost for the Premier League, who held a meeting with their 20 clubs on Monday but, when the news of the Government’s plan emerged, there was no comment from the top flight.

A return to action will only be possible though if sufficient progress is made in limiting the spread of the virus between now and then, the document entitled ‘Our Plan to Rebuild: The UK Government’s Covid-19 Recovery Strategy’ says that “organisations should plan accordingly”.

It is less clear when supporters will be able to return to venues. The document talks about venues such as cinemas and hairdressers reopening in step three – no earlier than July 4 – but states: “Some venues which are, by design, crowded and where it may prove difficult to enact distancing may still not be able to reopen safely at this point, or maybe able to open safely only in part.

“Nevertheless the Government will wish to open as many businesses and public places as the data and information at the time allows.

“In order to facilitate the fastest possible reopening of these types of higher-risk businesses and public places, the Government will carefully phase and pilot reopenings to test their ability to adopt the new COVID-19 Secure guidelines.

“The Government will also monitor carefully the effects of reopening other similar establishments elsewhere in the world, as this happens.

“The Government will establish a series of task forces to work closely with stakeholders in these sectors to develop ways in which they can make these businesses and public places COVID-19 Secure.”

Page 21 of the document warns that opening of venues such as sports stadia “may only be fully possible significantly later depending on the reduction in numbers of infections”.
