World Leaders Demand Free COVID-19 Vaccine For All

1

World leaders past and present insisted on Thursday that any eventual COVID-19 vaccine and treatments should be made available to everyone, free of charge.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan were among more than 140 signatories of a letter saying any vaccine should not be patented while the science should be shared between nations.

The World Health Assembly, the policy-setting body of the UN’s World Health Organization, holds its annual general meeting next week.

The signatories called on the WHA to rally behind the cause.

“Governments and international partners must unite around a global guarantee which ensures that, when a safe and effective vaccine is developed, it is produced rapidly at scale and made available for all people, in all countries, free of charge,” the letter said.

“The same applies to all treatments, diagnostics, and other technologies for COVID-19.”

The letter was signed by Senegalese President Macky Sall and Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Former presidents and prime ministers among the signatories included Shaukat Aziz, Jan Peter Balkenende, Jose Manuel Barroso, Gordon Brown, Helen Clark, Felipe Gonzalez, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Aleksander Kwasniewski, Mary McAleese, Olusegun Obasanjo and Juan Manuel Santos.

The letter comes amid fury in France after pharmaceutical giant Sanofi said it would reserve first shipments of any COVID-19 vaccine for the United States.

The French multinational’s chief executive Paul Hudson said the United States would get first dibs because its government was helping to fund the vaccine research.

His comments drew outrage Thursday from officials and health experts.

The letter ahead of the WHA said it was not the time to leave the task of resolving the pandemic to market forces or let the interests of wealthy companies and governments come before the need to save lives.

African Union Chairperson Ramaphosa said: “As the countries of Africa, we are resolute that the COVID-19 vaccine must be patent-free, rapidly made and distributed, and free for all.

“Nobody should be pushed to the back of the vaccine queue because of where they live or what they earn.”

Bishop Oyedepo Kicks Against Infectious Diseases Bill, Says “Why Will You Force Me To Take A Vaccine”

Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, has kicked against the Infectious diseases bill to make COVID-19 vaccines compulsory in Nigeria.

ABN TV had reported that the bill was co-sponsored by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, Reps Pascal Obi and Tanko Sununu.

Gbajabiamila’s Infectious Diseases Bill has since generated a lot of controversies, with critics saying that some of the provisions in the bill appear “draconian.”

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) had also alleged that lawmakers had been offered $10million to pass the Bill.

Speaking at the Church communion live broadcast, Bishop Oyedepo said gang-up agents of the devil were trying to bring a flood of evil upon humanity.

He further stated that something evil was being schemed by some individuals and that people perpetrating it don’t know why.

He said, “You must take a vaccine! Why will you force me to take a vaccine? For what?

“You don’t take vaccines, you don’t go outside the country! How? Where is it coming from?

“Evil scheming of evil men, gang up of agents of the devil, trying to bring a flood of evil upon humanity.

“And now from the vaccine: autism; from the vaccine: the higher mortality rate of deaths.”

The cleric, however, maintained that anything that troubled God’s agenda will be troubled, adding that his outcry over the closure of churches was for the kingdom of God.

“It’s over!! Whatever troubles God’s agenda will be troubled. The most valuable asset to God is human life.

“If you see me screaming and crying: it’s for the Kingdom, absolutely so.

“You mean you keep God’s people, block their access to spiritual food for 4 weeks, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 7 weeks and you are going to the market, buying and eating with 10 fingers. You kept students from the school.

“This is an imported virus, how has it become our own? Why must we now have it?

“There is something going on here! Something evil is being schemed by some individuals and those who are perpetrating it don’t even know,” he further stated.

IPOB Denies Alleged Arrest Of 9 Suspected Members With AK-47 Rifles In Delta

1

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied reports claiming that some members of the group were arrested with AK-47 rifles in Delta State by the Nigeria Police.

DAILY POST had reported that The Delta Police Command, on Wednesday arrested nine suspected members of the outlawed group.

Reacting, IPOB’s Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, in a statement on Thursday stated that those arrested were not members of the group.

He said: “It has come to the notice of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, though not by surprise, claims by the Nigeria Police that some persons allegedly arrested with AK-47 rifles in Delta State are IPOB members.

“We are not interested in trying to prove our innocence because we already know the plans of the Nigerian security agencies and their bitterness towards us.

“However, we wish to put the record straight for the sake of the gullible, and perhaps innocent Biafrans that the security agents want to hang or waste unjustifiably by branding them IPOB members.

“The fact remains that our non-violent philosophy in our bid to restore the Biafra Republic has not changed, and any time that position is changed, we shall make it known to everyone.

“Our Leader, Nnamdi Kanu has made it clear countless times that Biafra will be actualized without firing a shot and this has not changed.

“IPOB remains a peaceful movement seeking to restore Biafra without violence.

“If at all any person (s) were arrested with an AK-47 in Delta State, those who arrested them should try to discover their real identities.

“No IPOB family member carries arms for any reason. Our global record speaks for us.

”IPOB has never been associated with violence or arms struggle anywhere in the world.

“It’s a proven and incontrovertible fact that we are not violent despite being wrongly tagged a terrorist organization by the Nigeria Government to stop us.

”Therefore, we would like to advise Nigeria Security agencies to stop making jest of themselves by trying to associate IPOB with violence.

“They should try other tactics because this one can never fly.

“If we need to fight with guns and bullets we know where to go for it and get the quantity we need But we do not need arms and ammunition to achieve Biafra.

“Nigeria has already been dismantled through the consistent expositions of our great Leader.

No photo description available.

“It’s very shameful that instead of fishing out the killer Fulani herdsmen slaughtering Biafrans in their homes and farms with AK47, the Nigerian Security agencies are rather looking for ways to present the innocent people as killers.

“For the last time, we wish to restate that IPOB is a peaceful movement and those arrested in Delta with guns are not our members.

”Again, the suspects should not be tagged IPOB members just to prove a non-existent point.

“The world is watching. And all the atrocities levelled against innocent Biafrans will one day be accounted for.”

“This Could Be Your Toughest Assignment” – Tinubu Tells Gambari

2

Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has told Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari that this could be his toughest assignment.

Gambari has served as under-secretary-general of the United Nations and as the secretary-general’s special envoy on Cyprus, Zimbabwe and Myanmar and special representative in Angola.

He was the minister of external affairs in the military regime of Buhari between 1984 and 1985.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Tinubu described Gambari as a renowned diplomat, statesman and scholar who has served this nation in many important positions.

“His intellect, broad experience and skills in administration and diplomacy have adequately prepared and equipped him for the important job he now has,” he said.

“I congratulate Professor Gambari on his selection and commend President Buhari for making such a thoughtful and prudent choice at this crucial moment.

“Prof. Gambari will work competently and with the dedication to help President Buhari advance his policy and governance priorities just as he did in the past when he served as minister of external affairs in the 1980s.

“My personal knowledge of the chief of staff Gambari is that he is an erudite man who knows and loves this country and who strongly believes in the Nigerian project and President Buhari’s change agenda.

“Over a long and illustrious career, Prof. Gambari has proved his mettle nationally and internationally. His resume takes a back seat to none.

“At this time when the entire world is combating the coronavirus pandemic and the economic consequences thereof, Prof. Gambari’s expertise and international reputation will help Nigeria galvanise national, regional and international efforts and resources to contain this viral menace and to advance Nigeria’s interests on other important matters.

“This is a tough assignment, perhaps the hardest he has had, but he is a special person with great attributes. He will meet the challenge by discharging his duties with excellence and high purpose.”

UNIPORT Student Sentenced To Death By Hanging For Murder Of 8-Year-Old Girl

A high court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has sentenced a second-year student of Physics department at the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Ifeanyi Dike, and one Ugochukwu Nwamiro, to death by hanging for the murder of an 8-year-old girl, Victory Chikamso Nmezuwuba.

The duo were sentenced to death without an option of fine. One is to be hung by his neck until he dies while the other is to be hung on the leg till he dies as well.

Dike, who was aged 23 years when the incident happened in 2017, was apprehended by a local vigilante group in Eliozu axis of Port Harcourt with a sack containing Chikamso’s body following a tip-off.

The local security outfit later handed Dike over to the police for further investigations and prosecution.

He (Dike) reportedly removed the victim’s eyes, vagina, finger and tongue, after defiling and murdering her with the assistance of his cousin, Ugochukwu.

Few days after he was handed over to the police, Dike escaped from the premises of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), with the aid of police personnel on duty, Sgt Johnbosco Okoronze, who failed to handcuff the suspect after he had finished writing his statement.

Dike’s escape raised severe criticisms and condemnation for the police laxity even as the then Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed, described it as unfortunate and an embarrassment to the police force.

Some weeks later, Dike was however rearrested in Jos, Plateau State capital by security operatives and was brought back to Port Harcourt for trial. During the trial, the police prosecutor, Sgt. Blessing Oheyen tendered the body parts of the victim as evidence to the court.

Barely three years after trial commenced, the judge, Justice Adolphus Enebele, ruled that the evidence before the court showed that the duo conspired and murdered Chimkamso and hence, sentenced them to death.

The judge also sentenced Sergeant Johnbosco Okoronze of the State CID to one-year imprisonment for aiding the escape of Dike from police custody.

Family of the victim, Chikamso, expressed relief on the judgment while relatives of Dike were seen in court weeping after the judgment was passed.

It was gathered that Dike and the victim lived both on Messiah Street, Eliozu in Port Harcourt.

Father of the slain girl, Ernest Nmezuwuba, had in 2017 told the police he was filled with grief after seeing the mutilated body of his daughter.

He expressed shock that Dike could contemplate killing his daughter. “The man who killed my daughter is like my brother, someone very close to me, I can call him my cousin.”

Narrating how his daughter got missing and eventually killed, Nmezuwuba recalled that Chikamso had requested bread for breakfast, which he father bought for her before he left for work.

Nmezuwuba said when he returned home around 3:00 p.m. and learnt that his daughter was missing, he immediately began a search. When the search became fruitless, he reported the matter to the police.

“So, around 1:30 a.m. security men said that they had seen my daughter and that I should come and see the man that kidnapped her. I was in my shorts and I rushed to the place with the security agents.

“I was told that the person that killed my daughter was caught while carrying a load in a sack. The policemen said when they confronted him, he said he wanted to take it to the dustbin.

“When I got there, I asked: where is my daughter? They showed me a sack. As I opened it, I saw my daughter; I peeped and watched very well, the two eyes were off, the tongue was gone, one of the breasts was off, one of the fingers, the smaller one, was off.

I watched at the centre, he had carved it (vagina) out. As I turned back and saw him, he (Dike) was looking at the ground.”

21-Year-Old Man Murdered By Jealous Friend In Imo, Body Discovered in Anambra (Photos)

A 21-year-old man, identified as Micah Isaiah but also known as Leo Wire has reportedly been murdered by his friend an ex-militant out of jealousy.

According to reports surrounding Isaiah’s death, he was murdered on May 12th around Willow Wood hotel in Owerri, Imo state’s capital.

Isaiah, a 21-year-old man was reported to be close friends with his murderer —a supposed ex-militant— who hired some men to kidnap Isaiah after Isaiah acquired a Lexus SUV.

It’s reported that Isaiah’s friend became jealous after he bought his new car. This prompted him to kidnap Isaiah with the aid of other men who disguised themselves in military uniforms.

They forced him into “unidentified cars without plate numbers” and drove him along with his car to Anambra, where they held him hostage and demanded N4million as ransom.

Isaiah’s abductors contacted his younger brother to pay the ransom but he couldn’t afford it as he had just buried their mother — a burial Leo didn’t attend because he had been abducted.

When the men didn’t receive the ransom, they emptied Leo’s account and then murdered him.

It’s reported that one of the suspects was caught while making plans to sell Isaiah’s Lexus-350 SUV.

With this, they informed the SARS division in Owerri, who took action and tracked his phone, his car, and the bank account the money was transferred into.

One of the kidnappers was nabbed in the process who then took the SARS operatives to the bush where Leo’s body was dumped.

The kidnapper —Isaiah’s friend— who had on a Nigerian military sweater, confessed to the crime and revealed he was once a soldier and was dismissed in 2018.

He then went on to name his accomplices, one of whom he says is also a soldier.

He confessed that they accused Isaiah of being a fraudster before they apprehended him. He added that he and his accomplices used a huge stone to kill Leo and thereafter poured a substance on him.

The suspect said,

“We arrested him in the name that he’s a Yahoo boy. So, we collected his car. Emmanuel and Ifeanyi Nwiwu used this stone to kill him.

“Emmanuel, the one who is… and Ifeanyi who is a soldier in Makurdi, used this stone to kill this man.”

“You were once a soldier, abi?” one of the SARS officers asked the suspect.

He responded: “Yes, I was once a soldier. I was dismissed in 2018.”

Leo’s remains have since been deposited in a morgue after being dead for 12 days.

Lady Exposes Abuja Businessman Who Offered N10k Salary Job To Be His Girlfriend

1

A Nigerian lady on Twitter, Ibukunoluwanimi took to her page recently to share the Direct Message convo she received from an admirer who was rather too explicit in his request of courting her.

Ibukun took to her page to share how the man, with the name Collins, introduced himself in her DMs and straightaway, declared his explicit desires with a raunchy photo of lovers in bed.

Collins, who apparently hasn’t met Ibukun before, explained to her how the photo makes him imagine the both of them in bed.

He then went on to ask the lady to give him a response the moment she sees his message so he can immediately get her employed as his secretary and she would begin enjoying the benefits of a “good salary” of N10k to N15k.

Ibukun, irritated by the proposal —which she says is one of many— took to posting a screenshot of the messages and airing her disgust while threatening to expose other “Collins” in her DMs who come at her with such intentions

Odumeje Finally Reveals The Source Of His Power After Threat By Native Doctors

Controversial Nigerian prophet, Chukwuemeka Odumeje has finally talked on the source of his money and power.

Odumeje says if one serves a true living God, you must be rich because God is a rich God — he went on to say he always preaches to members of his congregation that God shows himself through his miracles. ABN TV reports.

If there is no miracle, there is no God,” he said.

Odumeje also stated that there are only one God and one power and that it is Jesus. He then says if people feel someone else gave him spiritual powers, then the person should come out to reveal himself.

The controversial clergyman was recently challenged by a popular native doctor in Arondizuogu after he allegedly spoke against late herbalist, Pericoma and the people of Arondizuogu.

On 6th of May, a video had surfaced online where Odumeje could be heard saying Pericoma’s children are of no use to the society and also that the People of Arondizuogu are very poor over their involvement in fetish practices.

In a follow-up video, Villagers and elders could be seen sitting at the big shrine while a Native doctor performed Rituals against the prophet.

The native Doctor then called on all their gods to come out and fight prophet Odumeje for condemning it.

He further accused prophet Odumeje of getting his power from India, adding that he cannot get his power from a foreign land and test in their Own Land.

Odumeje had debunked such claims about the source of his wealth, insisting that his wealth and power comes from God alone.

Like HIV, COVID-19 May Never Go Away – WHO

1

Just like with HIV, the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) may never go away, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

Mike Ryan, executive director of the World Health Organization health emergencies program, says the virus may just become one of the viruses around the world that kill people annually.

“This virus just may become another endemic virus in our communities and this virus may never go away. HIV hasn’t gone away,” Ryan said on Wednesday.

“We’ve come to terms with the virus and we have found the therapies and we have found the prevention methods, and people don’t feel as scared as they did before.

“There are no promises in this and there are no dates”.

HIV/AIDS was first clinically observed in 1981 in the United States, it has gone on to kill nearly a million people and has infected over 38 million people across the world.

Over 30 years on, no vaccine has been found for HIV, but research is ongoing to beat the disease.

Ryan said with a vaccine, “we may have a shot at eliminating this virus but that vaccine will have to be available, it will have to be highly effective, it will have to be made available to everyone and we’ll have to use it.

“I’m not comparing the two diseases but I think it is important that we’re realistic. I don’t think anyone can predict when or if this disease will disappear.

“This disease may settle into a long-term problem or it may not be.”

Coronavirus has infected over 4.4 million people globally and has killed nearly 300,000 people as of May 13, 2020.
