Man Cuts 10-Year-Old Son’s Ear, Burns Fingers For Stealing His Money

A Fifty-five-year old Ghanaian man, Osmanu Mumuni, has been arrested by the police in Ghana for physically abusing his 10-year-old son over claims he stole his money at his home in Obuom-Domeabra.

According to ABN TV reports, the mother of the child had on May 17, visited the police station to report that the day before, her ex-husband Osman Mumuni whom their son lives with, cut off part of the right ear of her 10-year-old son with a blade and also placed his fingers in an open fire after suspecting him of stealing ¢250.00.

The suspect was immediately arrested while the victim was taken to the Amanfro Poly Clinic where he was treated and discharged.

Osmanu who is in police custody confessed to the crime but claimed the victim is disobedient.

The police say he will be charged to court soon.

A Nigerian lady, identified as Elenora Paul, has slammed Nigerians for making ‘stupid’ things go viral on social media.

She made reference to the popular prophet, Odumeje and how Nigerians have been making a caricature of his statement -Indaboski, pahoze’.

According to Elenora, Nigerians are ‘a joke’ and they do not take anything seriously.

She said Nigerians do not know the meaning of ‘Indaboski’, but they are making jokes out of it.

Three Of Five New COVID-19 Cases In Abia Came From Lagos — Ikpeazu

Despite the interstate travel ban in Abia State, three out of the five new cases of COVID-19 came from Lagos, says the state governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

Announcing this on Monday, Governor Ikpeazu said the other two cases are asymptomatic, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to six.

“Abia has five new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of active cases to 6 as at today. Out of the new five, three of them came into the state from Lagos while the other two are asymptomatic” he said.

Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC Ibrahim Shuaibu, has said that there are no plans to mobilise recent graduates in the country for the compulsory scheme due to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Shuaibu in an interview with Economic Confidential said only NYSC Batch A, Stream 1, who were asked to leave camp due to COVID-19 would be asked to complete orientation.

He said, “We don’t know when we are going to start mobilising our corps members. You know our training is also structured like that of the military and paramilitary.

“You can see that the Nigerian Navy recently suspended its training for its freshly recruited cadets.

“So, the moment the coast is clear, we are going to key into the way others will conduct their exercise so that our corps members can be called back soonest.”

President Buhari Cancels Expected Nationwide Broadcast

President Muhammadu Buhari has made a U-turn on the expected nationwide broadcast.

Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, in a tweet Monday afternoon, said the presidential committee on coronavirus will brief the nation instead.

“No presidential broadcast on COVID-19 updates today. Rather, the Presidential Task Force will during its usual media briefings bring the nation up to speed on the next steps”, he wrote.

A source had told DAILY POST that isolated lockdown would be imposed in areas with high cases of coronavirus.

With the latest announcement by the president, the PTF on COVID-19 is expected to inform Nigerians on the next step as the first phase of the lockdown ease elapses today.

The broadcast cancellation came less than 24 hours after the confirmation by Aliyu Sani, the National Coordinator of the PTF.

Aliyu spoke when he appeared on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Commenting on how Nigerians have been flouting the guidelines, Aliyu said the president would decide whether the country should go ahead with the second phase of the lockdown ease.

He said the PTF had reviewed the situation and was concerned in terms of the implementation.

Aliyu disclosed that recommendations have been made to the President and everyone will have to wait for his decision on Monday.

FG Impounds British Aircraft For Conducting Commercial Flights

The Federal Government has impounded an aircraft owned by a British company for conducting commercial flights operation into Nigeria amid COVID-19 lockdown.

This was announced on Sunday by Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, via official Twitter handle @hadisirika.

The Minister said the company, Flair Aviation, was given the approval to conduct humanitarian flights but was caught operating commercial flights.

According to Sirika’s tweet, while the aircraft remains impounded, the crew is currently being interrogated. He also threatened that there will be a maximum penalty.

“COVID-19. Flair Aviation, a British company, was given approval for humanitarian operations but regrettably, we caught them conducting commercial flights.

‘This is callous! The craft is impounded, the crew being interrogated. There shall be a maximum penalty. Wrong time to try our resolve!,” Sirika said.

The Federal Government had earlier on March 27 shut down the airspace following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

The flight ban was recently extended by another month.

The extension of the flight ban was announced on May 6 by the Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha during the Presidential Task Force daily briefing on COVID-19.

He said the decision was based on the assessment and advice from experts of the aviation industry to contain the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Bashir Ahmed, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari, has come under fire on Twitter after saying that the ongoing construction of the Second Niger Bridge would be a gift to Nigerians when completed.

In a tweet on Sunday Ahmed said, “When the Second Niger Bridge is completed, it will be a gift that will keep the President @MBuhari’s administration in the minds of millions of Nigerians for a very long time.”
