Speaking on Tuesday during the briefing of the presidential task force on COVID-19, Aregbesola said the Chinese medical team members were issued a 30-day visa in Beijing, China.

The minister, however, explained that they have been unable to return their country due to the restriction placed on air travels.

“Indeed 15 Chinese nationals came into Nigeria on the 8th of April,” he said.

“From everything we have heard and said, they were here on the bill of CCECC, a Chinese company working in Nigeria, doing some work for us in several places.

“Those are the location in which they came to work.

“Fifteen of them came in on April 8. They came on a 30-day visa issued in Beijing but they are still here.

“They are still here not because they have not completed their job but because there is a restriction on travels in Nigeria occasioned by the COVID-19 protocols.”

The Federal Government has told Nigerians to prepare for the worst in the COVID-19 battle.

It however said it was doing everything within its powers to curtail spread of the virus.

Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, stated this on Tuesday during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

He urged health workers and Nigerians to do their best to learn more about the pandemic.

Enihare said: “It is of great importance that we – members of the health sector and citizens, endeavour to use this period to dedicate efforts to strive for the best, but also prepare for the worst.

“As we learn more about coronavirus every day, we must be ready to adjust our strategy, based on knowledge and evidence.

“To continue strengthening response in States, the Federal Ministry of Health and Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) are assessing isolation centers all over the country, recently in Yenagoa and Oshogbo.

“We also continue providing diagnostic commodities and facilities in collaboration with partners.

Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, said: “We are not doing community testing everywhere. In certain states like Lagos, Kano, and even in the FCT, we are taking the test a lot closer to the community because of the intensity of transmission in those states.

“In those states, the states are identifying hotspot areas and based on these identifications, intensifying testing in those communities.

“We haven’t gotten to the stage of drawing community testing across the country. We are doing targeted hotspot areas identified by states.”

The Federal Government says it is targeting about five million jobs for farmers through the €995m agricultural mechanisation programme.

The initiative was aimed at boosting food security for the country.

ABN TV reports that under the initiative, it added that facilities comprising tractors and other agricultural machinery were expected to be leased out to Nigerian farmers.

It stated that this was coming under the in-kind facility for agricultural mechanisation.

The in-kind facility, it added, was designed to help Nigeria attain food security, create jobs and diversify the economy from oil.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Agriculture, Dr Andrew Kwasari, was quoted in a statement obtained on Sunday as saying the agricultural machines would come from Brazil.

He said when the programme took off fully, it would create at least five million jobs and 35 million nutritional effects and economic impact on Nigerians.

Kwasari said the agricultural machines from Brazil would set the basic foundation across 632 local government areas for proper agricultural service.

These machines, he added, would be leased out to the farmers for a fee, adding that the operations would be privately managed in a competitive manner.

He stated, “Services ranging from land preparation to harvest and storage will be provided timely and on-demand to all farmers in a move to enhance the productivity of smallholder farmers that don’t need to own tractors and implements.

“Over 142 agro-processing factories will be situated across all senatorial districts to create aggregation, intermediary and final processing of the increased farm outputs on the back of the 632 primary production supporting service centres in the respective LGs.

“This is meant to tackle the primary issues of post-harvest losses commonly suffered by smallholder farmers as well as to domesticate efficient supply chain operations where factories or aggregation hubs are closer to sources of raw material.”

On job creation, training and technical skill transfer, Kwasari explained that the programme was tailor-made to cater to the needs of private operators of the service centres, farmers, extension workers, regulatory and research institutions, among others.

He also disclosed that three years from now, Nigeria would be food secured for the various plant and livestock-related commodities identified to be supported by the programme across the states.

“I Knew Buhari Can’t Fix Any Of Nigeria’s Problems” – Yakasai

1

Elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has explained that his reason for not supporting any of President Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential ambitions was borne out of his long-held conviction that Buhari lacks the ability to fix Nigeria’s problems. ABN TV reports

He added that the past five years of Buhari administration has proven him correct.

Yakasai made this known while appearing at the video Conference organized by Governance index on Friday which was attended by close to 100 participants across the globe.

He said President Buhari is yet to prove him wrong that he is competent to coordinate the affairs of the country.

Yakasai said, “I have never supported Buhari. I have been against him because I felt he was not competent to handle the job, and I have been proven right.

Yakasai said:” When President Muhammadu Buhari was elected, I was hoping that at least, we will get stable power all over the country. This is his fifth year. He has only two more active years because the last one year will be for election.

“I don’t know what are his plans, when will Kano get electricity to restore its industrial might so that every man in Kano will be gainfully employed as a result of a provision in Kano, likewise Enugu and Lagos among others.

“Those were the key issues from the time Buhari was elected and they are still the issues of today.”

Nnamdi Kanu To FG: “I Will Start Charging You For Free Education On Facebook”

The leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Tuesday took a swipe at the Nigerian government, saying that the government visits his Facebook page to get free education.

The IPOB leader and Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu therefore, said that very soon he will start charging the Nigerian government for receiving free education from his page.

He equally faulted the announcement made by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, on Covid-19, saying that the announcement was supposed to be made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

In a statement entitled, “Learning is good isn’t it, especially from miscreants” personally signed by Mazi Kanu, and made available to Vanguard by IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, Kanu queried why the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha will allegedly make the announcement that was supposed to be made by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Nnamdi Kanu commended the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for issuing a statement that rebuked the government for using Boss Mustapha to issue directives to Nigeria citizens.

Read the statement in full: “Good to see that Nigeria, her failed government and opposition come to my page to receive free education in History, Civics, Constitutional Governance and Democracy.

Very soon I have to start charging them.”

“Last night I wrote in my penultimate post that “Boss Mustapha made an announcement which the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo ought to have made in the absence of Mr President.

“It is an abomination in a democracy for a mere political appointee to issue a directive to citizens who cannot hold him accountable through the ballot box.

“This is Government 101. The TV station knew that was not only wrong and democratically untenable, but it was also a subversion of the Constitution and will of the people.

“Later that same night the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, issued a statement, rebuking the government for using Boss Mustapha to issue directives to Nigeria citizens.

“This is how it will be in the future, Nigerians will troop to Biafraland to learn how to run a democratic government and we Biafrans would be glad to teach them for free because they are fellow Africans.

“The correct question PDP should be asking the Nigerian government is, where is the Vice President and why is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation doing his job when he is still alive and well?

Ronaldo Returns To Juventus Training After Two Months

1

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to training with Juventus in Turin on Tuesday after an absence of over two months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The 35-year-old arrived at the Juventus Training Centre in a Jeep with tinted windows around 09:20 (0720 GMT), leaving three hours later with a smile and thumbs up for waiting photographers.

Ronaldo underwent medical and physical tests before joining up with his teammates for the first time in 72 days for individual training, according to media reports.

Coach Maurizio Sarri has been conducting training in small groups since Monday, pending the final health protocol to be agreed with the Italian government.

Juventus players got back to individual training on May 4, the day Ronaldo returned to Italy after spending lockdown in his native Portugal.

For the past two weeks, he has been in quarantine in his villa in Turin.

Ronaldo played in Juventus’ last Serie A game before the season was suspended, a 2-0 win over Inter Milan behind closed doors at the Allianz Stadium on March 8.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is the first Juventus foreign player, among those who left Italy during the lockdown, to return to the team’s Continassa training centre.

Italy has been one of the countries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic with more than 32,000 deaths.

League leaders Juventus are leading Lazio by one point as they target a ninth consecutive ‘Scudetto’.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) announced on Monday that all its competitions, including Serie A, will remain suspended until June 14.

Serie A had hoped to return on June 13 but the FIGC has pushed back the date in line with a government decree that all sports competitions be suspended until next month.

The FIGC said the choice was made “pending any further… decision by the authorities”, suggesting the possibility of a restart on June 13 might still exist.

But Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Saturday he needed “more guarantees” before the green light could finally be given for football to resume.

A meeting is planned in the near future between Conte and Italian football bosses.

The government’s technical and scientific committee will decide in the coming days if it accepts the new health protocols proposed for a return to group training and competition.
