Wuhan Officially Bans Eating Of Wild Animals

2

Authorities in Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, have officially banned eating, hunting and breeding wild animals.

A notice on the city’s municipal government website said the ban will come into immediate effect and will last for five years.

ABN TV reported that the novel coronavirus was first recorded in Wuhan late last year and the outbreak was linked to a seafood market where live animals were also sold.

However, following the outbreak of the virus, hunting is now banned in Wuhan except for “scientific research, population regulation, monitoring of epidemic diseases and other special circumstances,” the notice says.

“Hunting of wild animals is strictly prohibited,” the statement says. “The administrative area of ?? the whole city is a wildlife sanctuary.”

There will also be strict new controls on the breeding of wild animals, with city officials making it clear that none can be reared as food.

“It is prohibited to artificially breed terrestrial wild animals and rare and endangered aquatic wild animals under national key protection for the purpose of eating,” the notice says.

The notice also says illegal wildlife trading is “comprehensively prohibited” and there will be strengthening of “the supervision and inspection of wild animals”.

Officials will also “actively carry out wildlife protection and public health safety publicity and education, eliminate the abuse of wild animals, promote a civilised and healthy, green and environmentally friendly lifestyle, and create a good atmosphere for people and nature to live in harmony”.

The move comes amid mounting pressure for China to crack down on the illegal wildlife trade blamed by many for the Covid-19 pandemic.

Corrupt Politicians Trying To Blackmail Magu – EFCC

2

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has commenced investigations of platforms being used to promote a derogatory campaign against Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the agency.

In a statement on Wednesday, Dele Oyewale, EFCC head of media and publicity, said such campaigns are being done by “overseas-based,  politically-exposed and disgraced elements” who are being investigated for “unnerving acts of corruption.”

“The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been drawn to the antics of some few elements in the social media, employing desperate antics of blackmail, and smear campaigns against the successful war being fought against corrupt practices by the commission and its courageous chairman,  Ibrahim Magu,” Oyewale said.

“As a law enforcement agency,  the EFCC has enough facts about the sponsors of such insidious campaigns. It is an unflattering fact that corruption will always fight back and the Commission is not surprised that such a campaign could be coming from some overseas-based,  politically-exposed and disgraced elements being investigated for unnerving acts of corruption.”

The commission said Magu’s “courage, consistency and never-say-die spirit”,  has undoubtedly, earned him “a tribe of hard critics,  cynics and bitter foes.”

“However, it is uncharitable to link him with the ownership of some buildings belonging to other individuals with verifiable addresses,” Oyewale added.

“It is even ridiculous to allege that he shied away from being served a fictitious writ of summons over a  matter long decided by the Judiciary.

“The Commission finds every unfounded claim against it and its helmsman,  as desperate backlash from disreputable elements suffering its uncompromising works against corrupt practices.”

The EFCC advised the public to disregard such information while giving assurance that the outcome of their investigations would be made public

“We are not worried about such retrograde moves.  Members of the public only need to ignore tendencies aimed at blackmailing the EFCC and its workforce,” the commission said.

“The commission is on the trail of all the blackmailers and paid agents of darkness armed against it.  Massive investigations of the platforms being used and their promoters have commenced.

“Facts about their operations shall be made known to the public and outcome of investigations being carried out shall also be released to the public.

“Appropriate legal actions are also being taken against bloggers and their promoters embarking on a campaign of calumny against the commission.

“The EFCC, its helmsman and entire workforce would not be dismayed or distracted in any way.

“The task of fighting corruption is sacrosanct and no reactionary antics of detractors will succeed against the commission.”

It Is Disrespectful To Call Uzodinma “Supreme Court Governor” – Imo Elders

1

The Imo Council of Elders has said that it is derogatory for members of the opposition to continue to address Governor Hope Uzodinma as ‘Supreme Court Governor’.

ABN TV reports that The Elders maintain that using such an appellation for the state governor is an insult to the people of Imo, connoting that the people never voted for him.

The Elders also said that they are in support of the current probe by the Imo State House Assembly of the alleged missing N19.63 billion local government funds under the administration of former governor Emeka Ihedioha.

Dr Edmond J K Onyebuchi, Chairman of the Imo Elders Council, who made the remarks on Tuesday at a press conference, said that the elders of the state will henceforth tackle any individual/group who continue address Uzodinma as a ‘Supreme Court Governor’.

‘We are using this opportunity to warn those unpatriotic persons/groups to stop forthwith addressing the governor as a “Supreme Court Governor” as the Elders of Imo will not take it lightly, because those who are doing this are insulting the people of Imo who had voted massively for Sen Hope Uzodinma as governor of the state,’ he stated.

‘Imo people overwhelmingly voted for Sen Hope Uzodinma as their preferred candidate for the exalted office of the governor at the 9 March 2019 governorship election.

In spite of this massive support by Imo people, however, unpatriotic, discredited, greedy, egoistic, rapacious and corrupt politicians still tried to steal the mandate freely given to Sen Hope Uzodinma by the electorate.

But God stopped this devilish move through the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.’

Dr Onyebuchi said that the Elders Council are in full support of the current probe of the alleged missing N19.63 billion of the local government funds by the state Assembly under the past governor of the state.

‘We are in support of the ongoing probe of the N19.63 billion in council funds because the money belongs to the people of the state and if Ihedioha is found to have carried away our money he must bring it back. The money belongs to the people.

‘We will ensure that Governor Hope Uzodinma does the right thing by guiding him properly as elders of the state.’

Idiege, who is the state Commissioner for Youth Development and Skill Acquisition said the 11 trucks were sent back to their places of origin between May 4 to 17, adding that the taskforce had continued to maintain a steady presence at the border.

“President Mohammadu Buhari had announced an interstate lockdown of persons not on essential duties, I wonder why we keep being confronted with trucks at the Gakem-Benue border conveying Almajirai.

“We will not succumb to any form of challenge or gratification to allow any passenger vehicle or truck conveying Almajirai entrance into the state,” he said.

He commended Ayade for his enforcement strategies and directives that have kept the state Covid-19 free since the outbreak of the pandemic in Nigeria.

On his part, Commandant of Peace Corps Nigeria, Dr Dominic Okweche, said that the Corps was driven by the passion to protect Cross River borders against the Covid-19 pandemic.

Human Parts Dealers Beat Buyers Over N1m Fee In Ogun

1

Suspected ritualists, who deal in human parts in Ogun State, got enraged and beat up some of their customers for failing to pay the agreed sum of N1m for a human hand that was supplied to them.

The suspected ritualists reportedly lured their customers to a bush and beat them to a pulp for failing to pay for the human hand they asked them to provide.

It was gathered that the human part dealers were contracted by three persons, who were interested in money-making rituals.

The suspected ritualists demanded N1m for the ‘commodity’ but the buyers, identified as Matthew Idosu, John Feyisetan and Samuel Adegbola, could not come up with the sum after the hand had been delivered to them.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Oyeyemi said the three human part buyers were arrested by policemen in collaboration with the state security outfit, So-safe Corps, alongside a 40-year-old herbalist, Michael Itomu.

The PPRO explained that the suspects were arrested by the Joint Task Force at Idi-Iroko in the Ipokia Local Government Area of the state.

According to Oyeyemi, the four suspects were arrested for being in possession of a fresh human hand.

The PPRO stated that the suspects had contracted someone in Abeokuta, who promised to get the human hand for them for N1m.

Oyeyemi said the suspects were arrested following information received by policemen attached to the Idi-Iroko Division in Ogun.

He said the policemen were told that three suspects had sought the help of a herbalist for money rituals.

Oyeyemi added that the herbalist asked them to provide a fresh human hand before he could help them with the money rituals.

He said preliminary investigation revealed that it was Idosu, who contracted a family friend of his in Abeokuta to provide the human hand alongside two others, who are currently at large.

The PPRO stated, “On delivering the hand, the dealers demanded the agreed N1m, but the money was not readily available; this led to a serious scuffle between them and they angrily took away the duo of Samuel Adegbola and John Feyisetan into a bush, where they thoroughly beat them before they were released on May 17, 2020.

“It was the action of those, who supplied the hand, that made the whole secret to leak out and which eventually led to their arrest.”

Oyeyemi said following a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer, Idiroko Division, CSP Sunday Opebiyi, detailed his detectives in collaboration with men of the So-safe Corps to ambush the suspects as a result of which three of them were apprehended in Owode-Yewa in Ogun.

“Their arrest led to the arrest of the herbalist in the early hours of Tuesday, May 19, 2020,” the PPRO added.

He said the fresh human hand had been taken to the Idi-Iroko General Hospital for preservation.

Oyeyemi said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, had ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.

“He also directed that other members of the syndicate, who provided the hand, should be hunted and brought to justice,” Oyeyemi added.
