Ministers are set to reveal the easing of Britain’s lockdown today if the five tests are finally met.

Boris Johnson and his top team will get expert advice from the Government’s scientists today to check if it’s safe to start easing the measures.

And at tonight’s 5 pm press conference it’s expected to be confirmed that schools will open from June 1, along with outdoor markets and car showrooms.

The PM wants to slowly get Britain back to normal over the next two months – but as long as everyone can still remain a safe distance apart.

Today is the date of the three-week review period, where ministers have to by law look again at the coronavirus laws.

Matt Hancock said today on the idea that people may be able to meet up with family soon: “I hope we will be able to make some further progress but I don’t want to prejudge the formal decision we are taking late today on that.

“Today I have to formally review the rules on lockdown, you will be hearing later about that.”

Earlier this week the Health Secretary suggested that four out of five lockdown tests had been met, thanks to a huge PPE deal.

The Health Secretary said that “significant progress” has been made on securing enough vital equipment to help keep Brits protected on the front line in hospitals and care homes.

Cultists Invade Police Station To Free Robbery Suspects, Two Dead

The Delta State Police command has confirmed the death of two persons yesterday at the Jesse Police Station in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State after they were alleged to have stormed the police formation at the early hours of Wednesday in an attempt to free some robbery suspects.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onowhakpoyeya, who confirmed the attack, told Vanguard that “two persons were shot dead after they attacked the Jesse Police Station cell this early morning and attempted to free some robbery suspects, in fact, they had actually broken the key of the cell when Policemen on duty, reenforced and went after them and two of them were shot dead in the process” she said.

But a source at the community who craved anonymity told Vanguard that the police were economical with the truth “the truth is that one of those Yahoo boys had an issue with another one involving money and one chased the other into the police station with a machete, and right there he butchered him to death and the murderer was running away when the police shot him”.

The source said, residents of the community were angered by the brutal way the guy was shot so they mobilised themselves with an intention to set the station on fire, and in the process, a woman was hit by a stray bullet “and she is now receiving treatment in an undisclosed clinic in town”.

Early this month, cultists were said to have engaged in a confrontation that needed the police to intervene with cultists openly confronting each other in broad daylight.

The corpses have been deposited in a mortuary around the community.

When Vanguard visited the scene, Security men and members of the vigilante were seen on the ground in an attempt to calm the situation.

Navy Nabs 42 Suspected Cultists During Initiation In Cross River

Nigerian Navy Victory Ship (NNSV) has apprehended over 42 suspected cultists during initiation at Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River state.

The suspects who were arrested by naval personnel were handed over to the Cross River Government for further investigation and prosecution.

ABN TV reports that Briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Calabar, the Commander of NNVS, Rear Admiral Vincent Okeke, said the suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 24 through an intelligence report by concerned persons.

Okeke represented by Capt. Ibrahim Gwaska said the “informants” tipped off the navy standby team that the suspects were gathered in Akpabuyo local government area of the state for initiation and other nefarious activities.

According to him, intelligence gathering revealed that it was evidently clear that there was going to be a clash between the Klans and confraternities.

His words: “We are here to do a routine handover of 42 suspects to the Cross River Government representative, in a swift move, the base responded through a tip-off and cordoned the area in Akpabuyo. In that raid, we arrested 61 suspected cultists.

“On arrival, preliminary investigations were been conducted and have concluded the investigation, 42 out of the arrested 61 persons were confirmed to be cultists accordingly.

“It is on this regard that we will be handing over the suspects to the state government and officials of the Anti-Cultism and Kidnapping Unit for onward investigation and prosecution,” he said.

In a related development, on May 24 2020, the navy also arrested a wooden boat laden with 130 drums of palm oil smuggled from Cameroon alongside 10 suspects

The State Security Adviser, Southern Senatorial District, Mr Ani Esin, who received the suspected cultists, lauded the Navy for a job well done.

Esin hinted that the Navy acted swiftly on the tip of that was given to them.

Esin said: “As a state government, we are doing our best in ensuring that the issue of cultism is dealt with squarely.

“We are going to hand over the suspects to the relevant security agency for onward investigation and prosecution.

“For a few days now, we have been on operation with other security agencies in making sure that all suspected cultists are arrested and prosecuted accordingly, ” he said.

Esin thereafter, handed over the suspects to an official of the Anti-Cultism and kidnapping Squad, Mr Ogini Chukwuma for further prosecution.

Nigeria Overwhelmed By High Number Of Out-Of-School Children – Ahmed Lawan

Senate President, Ahmed Lawan says Nigeria is still heavily burdened with a high number of out-of-school children; the situation which, according to him, portends grave danger for the country and is unacceptable.

ABN TV reports that Ahmed Lawan, in a statement yesterday by his spokesman, Ola Awoniyi, to commemorate this year’s Children’s Day, said the surest route to a happy and fulfilling future for children was to provide them quality education and healthcare and to protect them against all forms of abuse.

He urged all Nigeria states to domesticate the Child Rights Act. The Act, enacted in 2003, guarantees, among others, the right of a child to free, compulsory and universal primary education.

“I want to use the opportunity of this occasion to assure our children that the National Assembly is fully aware of the challenges that they face and will continue to work to guarantee them and our country a better future.”

Ahmed Lawan called for collaboration between the Federal and state governments in comprehensively addressing issues relating to the plight of Nigerian children.

He also urged parents to dutifully play their own role in providing the immediate needs for their children, for the future peace of the children, parents and the country.

Police Officer, Soldiers Exchange Fire After Mistaking Each Other For Terrorists

Two Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers and a police officer shot and seriously injured each other after they mistook themselves for terrorists in Bura, Garissa County.

ABN TV reports that The police officer identified as Constable Emmanuel Ngao reportedly felt challenged by the two KDF soldiers, Senior Private David Mbugua and Jeremy Malusi who were on patrol and shot them during the confrontation.

They also shot him in the process.

Confirming the incident, Fafi sub-county police boss George Sangalo said the three security operatives sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed to Bura East Sub-County hospital in critical condition.

A police report read;

“Constable Emmanuel Ngao was challenged by KDF soldiers, Senior Private Jeremy Malusi and David Mbugua.

“He mistook the officers to be militants, he shot and seriously injured them. The soldiers fired back and the policeman was injured on his leg.

“The three officers sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to Bura East Sub-County Hospital and are in critical condition.”

Garisa police commander, however, said a full report will be issued after the investigation has been concluded.

It was further learnt that Constable Ngao had only left a female friend’s house when the incident happened

COVID-19 Is From Hell, Not From God – Bishop Mike Bamidele

The founder of Victory Life Ministries International, Bishop Mike Bamidele has said that COVID-19 is evil from hell. He warned that nobody should blame God for it.

The cleric said the churches would continue to support the government with prayers for an end to the virus, adding that government should be commended for their efforts so far in containing the spread of the disease.

The cleric said COVID-19 is real and urged people to continue to abide by preventive measures.

The cleric, Bishop Mike Bamidele, who disclosed this in an interview, offered special prayers for health workers, journalists, security operatives and others in the front line of the battle against the virus.

He said the Pentecost day celebration this year will be to pray for comfort for those who are bereaved and healing for those who are under any kind of diseases particularly the COVID-19.

Bishop Bamidele said this year edition of Pentecost Day Celebration would hold online because of the restriction on public gatherings imposed by the government to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

Bishop Mike Bamidele urged Christians across the globe to join through online and social media platforms and receive blessings. The cleric said Christians would not know COVID-19, saying that whoever has faith in Christ would not be infected.

“COVID-19 vanishes immediately you believe that it is gone.

“If you have faith that it would not come to you, COVID-19 would not locate you. COVID-19 has vanished if you believe so.

“No pastor can predict the end of the Coronavirus. Those who had earlier predicted the end to the virus but which did not come to pass needs to check the spirit that they are operating with.”

“There is no specific date the virus will end but the day any man is healed by exercising faith in God is the day the virus will end. For me, an end has come to the virus the day Jesus died on the cross,” the bishop said.

He reiterated the need for the United Nations to give recognition to Pentecost Day.

He also urged Osun state governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola to take a lead in declaring Pentecost Day as a public holiday in the state just as Hijirah Day and Isese Day marked annually by Muslims and traditionalists in the state were honoured with public holidays.

He said “The Pentecost Day was the 50 days after Jesus resurrection, it should be declared as a public holiday so that Christians can enjoy the celebration.

“If the state government could declare a public holiday for Muslims to celebrate Hijrah and the Isese Day for traditional worshippers, the same should be declared for Christians to celebrate Pentecost Day”
