Cause Of Music legend Majek Fashek’s Death Revealed

Legendary Reggae star, Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek died in New York on June 1.

It has now been revealed that he died after battling cancer for almost a year, ABN TV learnt.

The news of his death was announced by artiste manager Joy Tongo. Majek Fashek’s manager, Uzoma Day Omenka confirmed the news on the singer’s Instagram page on Tuesday morning. According to him, he died at 11.45 pm on June 1, 2020, Nigerian time.

He also confirmed the singer died in New York, not in London where he was previously receiving treatment. Uzoma said the doctors advised he should be moved close to his family, which influenced his being moved to New York where his wife and three sons live.

He said Majek was separated from his family for 10 years until last year in September when they were reunited on the advice of his doctors that he should be close to his family.

“We moved him from London to New York last September on the advice of the doctors that he should stay close to the family. Majek reunited with his family last year after 10 years of separation. He died in their company, ” Uzoma said.

Majek, who was born on March 7, 1963, was 57 years old when he died.

Details of his funeral arrangement will be made available in due time.

Court Orders Immediate Release Of Sen. Kalu

Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday gave an order for immediate release of Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu, the senator representing Abia North.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia state has been in Kuje Correctional facility since December last year after he was convicted on allegations bordering on corruption.

The Supreme Court last month upturned the conviction for not following due process.

Justice Mohammed Liman on Tuesday gave the order in an ex-parte ruling after listening to the suit filed by the legal team of the former governor Led by Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

Sen. Kalu is the current Senate Chief Whip.

EDO 2020: President Buhari Summons Oshiomhole

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to intervene in the political impasse in Edo State as he has summoned Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for a parley.

A member of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), who confirmed the development to Daily Independent, said Oshiomhole will meet with the president at the Presidential Villa tomorrow (today)

“I’m aware the president has summoned the national chairman and they will meet at the Villa tomorrow (today). I think the issue will be resolved.

There will be primaries but I think it will not be done in a way to put the governors of Edo and Ondo at a disadvantage”, he said. President Buhari on Monday met with Edo governor, Godwin Obaseki, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. On Sunday, eight APC governors met with the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, at the State House, Marina, Lagos State, to canvass support for Obaseki’s re-election.

They also proceeded to Abuja on Monday where they met with the leadership of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Oshiomhole. Obaseki has been engaged in a political tussle with his predecessor and godfather, Adams Oshiomhole, who is also the national chairman of the party.

As the race for the number one seat in Edo State heats up, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, on Monday, paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari where he intimated him that he was seeking re-election on the platform of the APC.

Obaseki, who briefed State House correspondents on the purpose of the visit, said even though President Buhari was a father, it would be wrong to assume or take things for granted, so he had to formally come to inform him of his decision to seek re-election.

The governor also said over 300,000 indigenes of the state had been screened for COVID-19 out of the 500,000 targets set by the government.

This is even as he vowed to ensure the killers of the 100-level student of the University of Benin, Uwaila Omozuwa, were tracked and brought to justice, describing the crime as heinous. “Well, I came to see Mr. President to formally inform him of my desire and intention to seek re-election as governor of Edo State on the platform of the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.

“As a father of our country, as a president, you don’t assume or take things for granted – I just had to formally come to inform him and solicit his support in my gubernatorial bid. “Well, I believe having been governor of the state for three years and the jury’s out, you can check with Edo people whether as governor, I have served credibly, I have served the people of Edo.

“The general consensus is that we have done well as a government and that people would like us to continue with the laudable programmes and policies which we have been taking over in the last three years.

“If you recall when I got into power as governor, one thing Edo was noted for was human trafficking.

“We had over 30,000 of Edo citizens, who were at Libya waiting to cross into Europe. Today, in less than three years, we have stopped it.

“We celebrated globally across the continent in terms of the reforms we’ve undertaken in basic education in this country. “Those children, I can’t abandon them.

We can’t stop what we have achieved to date. “So, based on that, we believe that because of a connection which we have created with our people, I have no doubt in our minds that we will win any elections, direct/ indirect, general elections in Edo State,” he stated.

Commenting on his misunderstanding with the party’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, he said he was misguided to think that he (Obaseki) could be defeated. The governor, however, said peace was paramount.

“The problem in Edo is not from within Edo, it is from outside. So, I don’t see the person I am competing or contesting against; he’s not in Edo, he is in Abuja.

“It is unfortunate, the position he (Adams Oshiomhole) has taken, I believe that he was misguided, well not properly guided, and as governor and his governor, and is my responsibility to seek peace for my state and with all my citizens.

“I will continue to strive for peace, I’ll continue to pursue peace, seek the interest of our people.

“I’m open, I will always call that we should talk about how to move things forward.

“We cannot turn back the hands of the clock. So, there are certain things we just must accept and see how we can move forward and build on, where we are. “So, the relationship is still frosty.

I’m doing all I can, doing my best to try and make it warm, try and meet just for the sake of Edo people, whatever it will take to have peace, you know, so whatever it will take not to lose lives in Edo, I am committed to.

“Whatever I can do that is within the law, whatever I can do that is constitutional, I will do,” he stated.

One of the suspects linked to the rape and murder of Miss Vera Uwaila Omozuwa has been arrested by police officers attached to the Edo state police command.

ABN TV reported earlier that the 22-year-old 100-level student of the University of Benin, Edo State was raped and killed while reading in a church in Benin city.

Spokesman of Edo police command, Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed the arrest while speaking to newsmen. He said the suspect was arrested after the deceased was rushed to the hospital and the fingerprint on the fire extinguisher she was attacked with was examined.

Nwabuzor said Area Commander of Ikpoba Hill mobilized his men to ensure that the suspect was apprehended.

Senator Munir Adekunle Muse, a former Senator, former Apapa Port Manager, and former Chairman of Apapa Local Government is dead. He died at the age of 81

His death was announced by his son, Sulaimon Muse, on Tuesday.

Born on 17 May 1939 in Olowogbowo, Central Lagos, the late politician joined Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in 1961 as a clerk, and was appointed to progressively more senior positions over the next 20 years.

From 1980 to 1984, he served as NPA’s Representative in London.
In 1990, he was appointed Traffic Manager of roll-on roll-off (roro) operations at the then RORO Port in present-day Tin Can Island Port Complex, holding this post until 1993 when he was appointed to head the Lilypond Container Terminal, Ijora.

He joined politics in 1998 and won the election as Executive Chairman of Apapa Local Government Area on the platform of Action for Democracy (AD) from 1999 to 2002.

In 2002, he was appointed Executive Secretary of the Apapa LGA. In February 2004 he ran again for office and was re-elected Executive Chairman of the Apapa Local Government.

In April 2007, the late Muse ran for the Senate on the ticket of Action Congress (AC) and was elected as the Senator representing Lagos Central.

In the Senate, he has was appointed to committees on state & Local Government, Solid Minerals, Police Affairs, National Planning, Marine Transport, Interior Affairs, and Air Force.

He lost the Senate ticket to Oluremi Tinubu – wife of All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Bola Tinubu in 2011.

Nigerian man who goes by the name Livinus Elem has given more insider details about the rape and murder of the 100 level UNIBEN student Uwa Vera Uwaila.

Mr Elem made a comment on Facebook where he stated that the late Uwa deserves what she got because she was dating two roommates.

He has however deleted his Facebook account after Nigerians asked for him to be arrested and investigated.

Recall that Vera Uwaila was viciously raped and murdered in cold blood at Redeem Christian church in Benin city few days ago.

As families in the country make efforts to overcome the impact of COVID-19, Mr and Mrs Harrison Nwachukwu of Ekwuruke Street by Okigwe Road, Umuahia Abia State are currently nursing their grief after the disappearance of their baby boy.

The 10-month old boy is alleged to have been stolen by a strange couple on Friday last week.

ABN TV correspondent gathered that the mother of the missing baby boy since the incident happened has been acting strangely.

Father of the 10-month old boy who gave his name as Harrison while narrating how the incident took place called on those in the custody of the missing boy to return him.

Mr Harrison, an official of FRSC explained that while at his duty post on a fateful day, he got an urgent call to come home.

On arrival at a hairdressing shop belonging to his wife situated at Ekwuruke Street by Okigwe Road, he was told how a man and lady deceived his wife, Charity, and stole the baby.

He said “Three weeks ago, this couple came to the saloon and the lady told my wife that she was looking for a good salon to make her hair.

“She said that they moved into the neighbourhood a few weeks ago from Port Harcourt and had been searching for a good salon to make her hair.

“My wife welcomed them, thinking that they were genuine, not knowing that they had another thing in mind.

“From that day, the ‘couple’ started visiting the saloon on a regular basis and were admiring my children, especially the 10 months old Emmanuel.

“The lady told my wife that they have been married for two years without a child and have been praying for a child like my baby son.

“They come around every day to greet my wife, thereby creating a kind of familiarity.

“On Friday, the couple came to inform my wife that the wife would be making her hair on Saturday, but my wife told them that since Saturday was clean-up day, they should come in the afternoon.

“They returned later on Friday with the excuse that they would not be chanced on Saturday afternoon. The man even bought roasted yam and ate it while my wife was preparing the attachment to make the wife’s hair.

“While my wife was working on the attachment the lady gave my wife a padlocked bag and told her not to let her husband get hold of the bag because it contained money, which she didn’t want her husband to see.

“It was while the stylist was busy preparing the attachment that the woman left while her husband took away the child, telling neighbours that she was taking the child to Shoprite to shop for him.

“On realising that both husband and wife were nowhere to be found, my wife raised the alarm. On opening the bag, they discovered that it contained only serviettes.

“The matter was reported to Central Police Station, Umuahia.

“Now, it is like my wife is developing mental issues. She has not eaten since then and would say that her son is crying and needs her.”
