Tinubu Calls For Justice Over Rape, Murder Of UNIBEN Student

0

Bola Tinubu, national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called for justice over the death of Vera Omozuwa, a 100-level microbiology student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo state.

Last week, Uwa, a student of microbiology, died after she was attacked and raped while studying in a church in Benin.

At about the same time, Tina Ezekwe, a 16-year-old girl, was hit by a stray bullet after a police officer fired shots in a bid to apprehend a bus driver at the Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos.

The student’s death comes weeks after Jennifer, an 18-year-old girl, was allegedly gang-raped by five boys reported to be her friends in Kaduna state.

The deaths of Nigerian females have triggered protests on social media as Nigerians called for justice over the killings.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Tinubu also condemned the killings, saying such violence is inexcusable.

He said the incidents are parts of the “pain, hurt and stigma of gender-based violence and abuse” suffered by Nigerian women and young girls.

Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos, said “enough is enough”, adding that justice should be served to all victims of gender-based violence.

Tinubu with placard

“For far too long women and young girls in our nation have suffered the pain, hurt and stigma of gender-based violence and abuse. Too many have been hurt, intimidated and bullied. Too many have died. Such violence is inexcusable. There is nothing that can defend this wrongdoing,” the tweet read.

“All of us are born of woman and nurtured of woman. Vera Uwaila Omozuwa, UNIBEN student is the most recent name on a list, far too long, of women who have lost their lives at the hands of these vile criminals. Today, I rise in solidarity with women in Nigeria to say #enoughisenough

“#JusticeforUwa #JusticeforJennifer #JusticeforTina #JUSTICE for all victims of gender-based violence.”

BREAKING!! Alleged N1.1b Fraud: Court Dismisses Charge Against Former Customs Boss Dikko

0

A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a charge of fraud brought against former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Abdullahi Inde Dikko, and two others by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC).

Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, in a ruling on Wednesday, dismissed the charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/21/2019 in view of the oral application by ICPC’s lawyer, E. A. Sogunle to withdraw the charge under Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

Sogunle told the court that despite a bench warrant issued on Dikko, who has not attended court since the charge was filed early last year, the prosecution has been unable to arrest him and produce him in court.

Dikko was named with two others – a former Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance, Administration and Technical Services, Garba Makarfi, and Umar Hussaini, a lawyer, and owner of Capital Law firm – as defendants.

Dikko, Makarfi, and Hussaini were, among others, accused of inducing the Managing Director of Cambial Limited, Yemi Obadeyi, to pay N1.1 billion (N1,100, 952,380.96) into the account of Capital Law Office as a refundable “completion security deposit” for the purchase of 120 units of duplexes as residential accommodation for officers of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Hussaini was said to have distributed the money into various other bank accounts and for his part in the deal, he was rewarded with the sum of $3 million.

”Now, these times are not funny.
Bello Barakat has fallen too. A student of IAR&T Oluyole, Ìbàdàn. I gathered their home was attacked yesterday afternoon by supposed robbers who tried to finish on a romp.

Barakat resisted their attempt to rape her and she was stabbed to death. We hope and pray that the perpetrators of this evil will be fished out.

The girls are getting more endangered. The society must do something. I am not just worried because I am a father to 19 year old student too, but I am really concerned because girls and women deserve better. They deserve respect and protection from the society. They are not objects for use in carnality.

I think it is time to start a new campaign to mould the boy child. The new generation of boys seem to be posing much danger to the advocacies for the girl child over time.

It is my earnest prayers that the killers of #Barakat and #Uwa and every unreported assaults and deaths be brought to justice.” he wrote #JusticeForBarakat
