Tinubu’s Daughter, Folasade Shuts Down Computer Village, Asks Traders To Pay N1,000 Each

Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of National Leader of the All Progressive Congress(APC)Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on a rampage.

Folasade Tinubu-Ojo who is also the Iyaloja General of Lagos has shut down Nigeria’s equivalent of the silicon valley, the Computer Village, which is the hub of ICT accessories in Nigeria.

Folasade gave her aides the order, who invaded the village overnight removed signboards of the various associations domiciled in the village with the order that no shop should open for business.

That has been the case. Her order was carried out at a time, when many are just recovering from the lockdown, following the onset of the Coronavirus pandemic. At her behest, Nigerians who survive daily on income from the Computer Village have been locked out.

the Nigerian Daily gathered that her grievance was the refusal of about 5 million businessmen, some of the experts inhabiting the hub to pay the imposed levy of N1000 per day, irrespective of about 15 existing associations, all registered by the Federal Government, in what many have described as a political move to keep the area under control.

When our correspondent visited the area, all the shops were under lock and key, no business was ongoing with the situation very tense at the moment. Sources informed the Nigerian Daily that the situation will likely persist in the coming days.
Some shop owners who spoke said they will never submit to her authority.

They wonder how Folasade Tinubu- Ojo will want to wield her influence in a hub where she has no shop. They told us that leadership in the market is based on the democratic election and challenged her to put up a candidate when elections are due.

the Nigerian Daily also gathered that the hub had already succumbed to a Baba Oloja who also owned no shop in the area but that this time, it will fight to finish. Sources informed us that the relevant association may go to court stop this impunity by the Iyaloja General of Lagos.

Last year, members of the Computer Village protested her decision to impose Iyaloja on them. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo who addressed the issue said the protesters were ill-informed.

“According to our constitution, I can choose anybody from any local government in the state to head the market, all the Iyaloja and Babaloja in all the Lagos markets are my representatives in the market where they operate.

“Kindly educate them that phones, handsets, computers are commodities. They cannot tell us they are not pepper sellers, everybody cannot be textile dealers; they can’t tell us that the computer village will be exonerated from other markets. We have the right to choose for them Iyaloja and Babaloja.

“Those people protesting never approached me to complain. They don’t have the initiative that the person leading the protest has finished his tenure and wants to remain in power…

“Computer village is not just an ICT hub, there are a lot of commodities being sold there; nobody can say it is wrong to select a babaloja and iyaloja for the market. Those that have been selected were not selected because they are Yoruba, in some of our markets in Lagos we have Igbos that were selected as market leaders,” Tinubu-Ojo said.

Senate Not Buhari’s Rubber Stamp, We Disagree Many Times Says Senate President, Lawan

Senate President Ahmad Lawan says the upper legislative chamber has disagreed with President Muhammadu Buhari on many occasions and are not “rubber stamp” as alleged but they have adopted a method of going “behind the scenes” to settle their differences.

The senate under Bukola Saraki, his predecessor, had a frosty relationship with Buhari.

They clashed on a number of issues such as on the confirmation of nominees and the president’s request to obtain loans.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Lawan said it would be unfair to himself, senators and Nigerians to fight the executive in the name of independence for the arm of government he heads.

While insisting that the national assembly under his chairmanship is not a rubber-stamp legislature, the senate president said there would be better “service delivery” to the people when there are cooperation and mutual respect between the two arms of government.

“Do you know that we have disagreed with Mr President, the executive arm of government, many times? People don’t know, because what we have adopted is to go behind the scenes and solve our problems,” he said.

“I have also witnessed better service delivery to the people when there were cooperation and mutual respect between the two arms.

“I think I will be unfair to myself, to the people and to the senators who elected me to choose right from the beginning to just fight in the name of independence of the legislature.

“I believe in the independence of the legislature more than people think. Now they say we are a rubber stamp assembly.

“What people don’t know is that there is nothing that in the opinion of the Senate or national assembly that will jeopardise the liberty of our people or against the interest of the majority of Nigerians that we will do.

“Call us anything, if you like, not rubber stamp, call us steel stamp or whatever it is. I can tell you, today this senate has done, in the last count, 27 confirmations.

“Tell me, if we didn’t do those confirmations; tell me how governance will be carried on? There will be so much arbitrariness, maybe ministers will take advantage of where they are to supervise; there could be a lot of abuse.

“So, we shouldn’t confirm people? If we confirm it is rubber stamping.”

High Court Judge Withdraws From Law Suit Against Gbajabiamila

The Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Taiwo Taiwo has withdrawn from the suit filed by the Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, and its spokesperson Ikenga Ugochinyere against Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila challenging the ongoing moves by the lawmakers to summon him before the House Adhoc Committee led by Henry Nwawuba.

Justice Taiwo said he is withdrawing on the ground that his image and reputation has been maligned since the hearing of the matter and as such referred the matter back to the Chief Judge for reassignment.

The House had directed the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, to arrest Ugochinyere, over allegations made against the House about $10 million bribes.

Ugochinyere had alleged that the lawmakers collected $10m bribe to hurriedly deliberate upon and pass the controversial Control of Infectious Disease Bill 2020 that was pending before it.

Justice Taiwo who ordered that status quo should be maintained in the matter after the House summoned the CUPP spokesperson, reminded the defendants including Femi Gbajabiamila, the House of Representatives, Clerk of the National Assembly and the Inspector-General of Police of the settled position of the law, that once a matter is in court parties must stay further action pending the determination of the suit.

He said that the date for hearing on the matter will be related to the counsels once the Chief Judge of the Federal High court reassigns the case.

The Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has assured the people of the State that he remains stable and in high spirits.

The Governor whose second Covid-19 test returned positive on Sunday said that his decision to present himself for a second test was to remove all doubts about his status, after testing negative initially.

“As your Governor, I have a responsibility to do what is right and keep our people fully updated about my health status”, the Governor stated in a release by his Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka.

The Governor restated his stance that testing positive to the virus is not a death sentence and appealed to the people of the State not to panic but continue to take issues surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic with seriousness and take all necessary precautions in line with the protocols enunciated by the NCDC.

The Governor who has already commenced self-isolation under the careful watch of experienced medical personnel directed that the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu shall hold the forte in his absence.

Rapists Should Be Castrated Says FCT Minister

Ramatu Aliyu, minister of state for the federal capital territory (FCT), has called for castration of persons convicted of rape.

ABN TV reports that the FCT Minister, Aliyu made the call while presenting palliatives to the FCT chapters of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Nigeria Football Association of Coaches.

She said the punishment will serve as a deterrent to others, adding that the FCT administration is working closely with security agencies and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) to push for a serious institutional framework that would ensure justice is served.

“We will involve every member of the community in this battle against rape,” she said.

“Just recently, we are in search of one offender, and definitely we will nip it in the bud. And in conjunction with all the security outfits, NAPTIP, in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, we are on the watch, and for any offender that we get, we will take it to any length to ensure that he is not fit to live.

“We are also pushing for a serious institutional framework that will ensure that justice is done. It is not enough to just jail such person, definitely punishment like castration will do.

“When we kill them, they die and do not remember anything. Therefore, they should be castrated and roam the streets and remain inactive.”

Aliyu also appealed to the leaders of the groups to ensure that the palliative items reach the vulnerable.

Ronaldo is Instagram’s top earner after raking in £14million MORE from his posts than he does playing for Juventus.

According to a new report from Buzz Bingo, the Portuguese superstar has retained his crown as the social media site’s highest earner.

The 35-year-old, who also has the most followers on Instagram at 222m, raked in £41.7m from 43 sponsored posts in the past 12 months.

In comparison, Ronaldo was making £27.3m from his salary at Juventus, before any coronavirus-related pay cuts.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner saw an increase of £3.5m from his Instagram earnings in 2019 by pocketing an average of £971,000 per sponsored post.

Over the past year he promoted Nike, his fragrance CR7 Play it Cool and even an EMS training device called ‘Sixpad’.

Ronaldo’s longstanding rival Lionel Messi was beaten into the second spot after his sponsored posts collected a total of £25.2m, or £631,000 every time he made one.

The Barcelona captain has money-making partnerships with Adidas and regularly posts pictures of his globe-trotting lifestyle.

David Beckham was once again the highest-paid British star on the rich list for his posts to his 63m followers.

The 45-year-old is such a hit on the social media platform he scooped a whopping £9.6m despite retiring over seven years ago.

Some of his paid Instagram partnerships included posts for Tudor Watch, Marina Bay Sands Hotel and Kent & Curwen.

In a list dominated by athletes, Neymar is the fifth-highest sportsman after netting £6.7m from the social media site this year with a reported average of £617,000 per paid post.

Interestingly Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has the second most sponsored posts of all celebrities at 47, four above Ronaldo.

Yet the Poland international’s lack of off-field exposure means he can only fetch around £76k per post and made just £3.58m for his troubles this year.

And despite being considered one of football’s most marketable stars, Manchester United star Paul Pogba is ninth on Instagram’s highest-earning athletes.

The Frenchman, who has a £290,000-a-week wage packet at Old Trafford, can make an additional £181k per sponsored post and scored £1.8m this year.

That was enough to see Pogba finish just above former Chelsea star Eden Hazard.

The £400k-a-week Belgian captain made £1.4m this year following his £122k fee for advertising to fans on social media.

Omo-Agege Denies Asking EFCC To Investigate Akpabio

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has denied asking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

He denied the claim in a statement on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga.

Senator Omo-Agege faulted a letter which purportedly emanated from the Clerk of the Senate, acting on his behalf and requesting the acting EFCC Chairman, Mr Ibrahim Magu, to investigate the minister, Godswill Akpabio.

He, however, stressed that the letter did not come from him and described the document as fake.

The Deputy Senate President insisted that he never instructed the Clerk of the Senate or any other person to contact the EFCC to investigate any individual.

“The attention of the Office of the Deputy President of the Senate has been drawn to a letter dated 7th May 2020, purportedly written by the Clerk of the Senate acting on behalf of the Office of Deputy President of the Senate requesting the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and monitor the Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and one other.

“This Office hereby states that the said letter is false, fake, malicious, mischievous and vexatious,” the statement read.

It added, “This Office never instructed the Clerk of the Senate, or in fact any person, to write to or contact the EFCC in relation to any person.”

Senator Omo-Agege, therefore, urged Nigerians to disregard the purported letter, saying it was the handiwork of persons with criminal intents.

Endless Borrowing, Insecurity Will Destroy Nigeria, ADP Warns

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) as raised the alarm over incessant borrowing by the Buhari administration and the spate of insecurity, saying that both would destroy the country if not addressed.

The party also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to hearken to the voice of the masses and immediately fire the service chiefs and hold governors responsible for the unabated killing spree across the country.

ADP National Chairman Yabaji Yusuf Sani, who stated this in Abuja at a press briefing in commemoration of the party’s 3rd anniversary, called for a declaration of a state of emergency in states like Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara with immediate effect.

He said:

‘ADP is worried by the situation whereby nobody is held accountable for the inexplicable wanton loss of lives in the hands of these so-called bandits.

‘We call on Mr President to hold the service chiefs and the governors of the respective states accountable for these heinous crimes against humanity been committed in their jurisdictions.

‘ADP calls for a declaration of a state of emergency in states like Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara with immediate effect. This will not only give justice to the innocent villagers who are been killed like chickens but serve as a deterrent and save the country from unnecessary psychological pains and economic backwardness.

‘ADP also frowns at the recklessness and the insensitivity of the administration to the inimical consequences of an unbridled spate of borrowing and pilling up debts thereby mortgaging the future of generations yet unborn.

‘In particular, ADP is disturbed by the untenable reasons advanced for the USD3.4 Billion dollars loan from the IMF which may bring Nigeria under the control of the western powers if we fail to meet our obligations when due.’

Ahead of the governorship election in Edo and Ondo states, the ADP chairman urged the electorate not to reelect politicians who have betrayed their trust, adding that the party’s form would be sold at N8.5 million.

‘I call on the people of Edo and Ondo states not to repeat the same mistake again and elect leaders who are not sensitive to their plight

‘Rather, they should consider the future of their unborn generation and resist the temptation of vote-buying, intimidation and callousness. A vote for the ADP is a security for the future of Nigeria,’ Sani added.
