BREAKING: Obaseki, 2 Others At APC National Secretariat For Screening

The screening of the six aspirants for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Edo state began on Wednesday afternoon at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

The chairman of the screening committee, Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, said it was only to verify all the documents provided by the aspirants and make recommendations to the party based on its findings.

Three aspirants are already on ground for the exercise.

They are: Hon. Osaro Obaze was the first to present himself for screening.

Governor Godwin Obaseki, who arrived at about 1:10 left after five minutes.

Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi is also on ground for the exercise.

Obaseki Is Our Alumnus, Says University Of Ibadan

The University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki graduated from the institution.

The university, in a statement by its Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi, said Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, studied Classics.

According to the statement, the Governor gained admission to the university in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division).

“Records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university.” the statement said.

Some opposition leaders in the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been accusing Obaseki of presenting a fake certificate, saying he did not graduate from the premier university. The UI statement will draw the curtain on the supposed certificate scandal crisis.

Obaseki has been in a running battle with his predecessor Adams Oshiomhole over the second term ticket. The latter, who is the National Chairman of the APC, has vowed to ensure the governor does not get a second term in office.

A chieftain of APC in Abia state, Chief Daniel Okeke has congratulated the Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu on the resumption of plenary at the National Assembly, called him an ACTION SENATOR.

This is following Sen. Kalu’s release from Nigeria Correctional Service facility in Kuje, Abuja after the Supreme Court annulled his conviction by a federal high court in Lagos on allegation of embezzlement.

In a release on Wednesday, the Chairman/CEO Swiss Spirit Hotel Danag, Chief Okeke stated that though justice may be delayed but cannot be denied.

He said the reversal of Sen. Kalu’s wrongful conviction is a plus to the judiciary, adding that it has brought a ray of hope to others who may be suffering one form of oppression or the other.

According to Chief Okeke OUK is an ACTION SENATOR, and the resumption of Kalu, who is the senator representing Abia North in the Senate will usher in the continuation of effective representation of the people of the constituency.

He called on Abians and the entire Igbo race to continue offering support to the federal lawmaker and his colleagues from the Southeast for the overall good of the zone.

Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia North local government area of Abia state hometown of the Leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was on Wednesday engulfed in heavy protest over what the community call police intimidation.

ABN TV gathered that the locals are accusing one Doris Uzumma of using the police and other security agencies to intimate them.

A source who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity also alleged that some land grabbers who engage in selling the community lands are fuelling the crisis in the community.

Describing Uzumma Doris as a settler, the community said they want her to vacate immediately.

ABN TV had brought you a report that Uzunma Doris was alleged to have obstructed the construction of road projects awarded by the state government.

She allegedly refused the offload of materials meant for the construction in a land she claims belongs to her.

Abia Records 14 New Cases Of COVID-19, Nears 100 Mark

The Abia state COVID-19 cases on Tuesday hit 97 after 14 new cases were recorded, ABN TV reports.

The state a few days ago recorded about 67 cases which include the governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.

Abia is the second-highest in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the South East after Ebonyi State.

With the new figure, it is expected that the state will exceed 100 marks in the number of confirmed cases in the coming days.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 663 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number to 13,464.

The NCDC made the announcement on Tuesday night via its Twitter handle.

“On the 9th of June 2020, 663 new confirmed cases and 4 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.

“Till date, 13464 cases have been confirmed, 4206 cases have been discharged and 365 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“The 663 new cases are reported from 26 states; Lagos-170, Ogun-108, Bauchi-69, Ebonyi-49, Edo-33, Rivers-30, FCT-26, Jigawa-26, Delta-20, Anambra-17, Gombe-16, Kano-16, Imo-15, Abia-14, Borno-11, Oyo-11, Plateau-8, Kebbi-6, Kaduna-6, Ondo-4, Niger-2, Katsina-2, Osun-1, Ekiti-1, Kwara-1, Nasarawa-1,” it said.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed 663 new cases of COVID-19 in the country, bringing the total number to 13,464.
